See emotions induces stupidity.
Big sum of money in his CPF also means big fat Medisave.
And when his Medisave is depleted, funds can be transfered from the Ordinary Account to top up Medisave.
Boh nau eh!
I would tend to say that like most locals, the deceased did not have a lot of cash for him to use.
Maybe we can take some timeout and examine this.
Question:
Is there a limit on my Medisave balance?
Answer:
Yes, the prevailing Medisave Contribution Ceiling is $39,500. You need to contribute to your Medisave Account up to the prevailing Medisave Contribution Ceiling. After that, any Medisave contributions in excess of the Medisave Contribution Ceiling will be transferred from the Medisave Account to the Special Account for members aged below 55, and to the Retirement Account for members aged 55 and above, who do not meet the CPF Minimum Sum. For those who have set aside the full CPF Minimum Sum, the excess CPF contribution will be transferred from the Medisave Account to the Ordinary Account.

Ok, so transferable, so if a person is sick and he did the top up, and his bill is higher than $39,500 for that particular bill, will he have to pay the balance in cash?
Will the hospital split the bill and waits for the patient to do another transfer for the remaining balance after the first bill was paid with Medisave money?
I don't think the entitlement is limited to $39,500 worth of medical expenses and no more.
There are cases where the Ordinary Account funds are released for special needs. No reason why funds cannot be transfered to a depleted Medisave account. There is no need for the government to step in. The billing counter staff at hospitals will know what to do. And I have seen, at Changi Hospital, HongKongers and Filipinos handling Medisave transactions for Singaporeans.
Youngsters like my sister is an elite cannot hear these kind of things.I never mind one because I support Jesus Christ who preach not to lay up treasures on earth.
And ironically, he could have voted for PAP all through his living years
He is a poor thing to die penniless and I feel sad that he don't have the earning power like my sister and I am worried that I will end up like him.

of the the things i hate the cpf rule the most.
cpf rule sucks.
You can also buy the medishield using your medisave. This pays for 90% of your hospital bills. The other 10% you can buy a cheap totalshield to cover.
The best part i like about CPF is this medishield. USA doesn't even have a good system like this one.
CPF was the coolest thing PAP ever invented but that was when life was a lot shorter and people actually got their money at 55

so the woman get all the money from her brother cpf account?
It's the same principle with a hdb flat.
You can stay in your high price hdb flat and feel rich.
If Medishield and Medisave system is so good like you say.
How did this man succumb to his illness and died a penniless person?
Perhaps it's a terminal disease, in which case, I think the government should consider consider releasing all the sickman's CPF money, at least let him enjoy the fruits of his labours before passing on.
The irony of it all.

So it is like the joke about prisoners of war changing new underwears. but this time you get no underwear because your CPF goes to someone else.
