HOUSEHOLD incomes got a strong boost last year in tandem with strong economic growth, a paper released by the Singapore Department of Statistics (DOS) showed.
Median monthly income from work among resident households increased by 3.1 per cent, from $4,850 in 2009 to $5,000 in 2010.
For employed households, or households with at least one working person, median monthly income from work increased from $5,400 in 2009 to $5,700 in 2010. Median monthly household income from work in 2010 recovered to above the level before the economic downturn in 2009.
Those living in smaller housing types saw larger growth in household incomes compared to those living in bigger housing types, the paper revealed. Increases in median household incomes across housing types ranged from 7 per cent for those in HDB one and two-room flats, 3.6 per cent in HDB three-room flats, 2.4 per cent in HDB four-room flats and larger, and 0.2 per cent for those in private properties.
The DOS paper added that various government schemes had added $1,110 per household member to resident households in 2010, which also gave a larger boost to those staying in smaller housing types.
Resident households in HDB one- and two-room flats received an average of $2,650 per household member while resident households in HDB three-room flats received an average of $1,480 per household member. This was higher than the $530 per household member for households in private properties.

1 question. these households refers to families with 2 working adults, or do they also include families with grown-up children who are working?
See, told ya, nobody knows.

still need data input to DOS so where they pluck from?
Actually, DOS carried out the population census by asking people to fill up the questionaires.
It is an open secret that in Asian societies face value is very important.
So if a person earns 3,000 / mth, he reports 3,500 or more.
DOS didn't pluck the data from thin air but its method encourages people to pluck thin air data for it.
Lies, lies, damn lies are less important than face value.
Elections coming soon.
They have to come up with more propaganda to sway public opinion.
They also included various government schemes which probably inflated the figures.
I presume they added in GST credits and rebates and such to make the figure higher than it is.
