Hidden History : 1962- Singaporeans were not allowed to vote NOT to join Malaysia.
In 1962, a Referendum was conducted to see what Singaporeans think
about the prospects of merger with Malaya. The people were given 3
options :
Option 1 : Merger with autonomy in Labour and Education matters
Option 2 : Unconditional merger making Singapore on par with any Malayan state.
Option 3 : Merger under terms not worse than the Borneo states.
There was no Option available if you do not wish for merger with Malaya.
In other words, you are fucked if you do not want merger!!!

ON OCT 15 in 1994, at 7.30'pm, on her way to her hairdresser's at the
Katong People's Complex (now known as Katong Mall), Singapore's top
nightclub mamasan Mona Koh was shot twice by an unknown gunman at the
ground floor lift lobby. One bullet hit her face, another her back. A
police detective was NEAR the scene of the shooting, but even then the
gunman was never caught.....
Mona was to spent six months in hospitals, first in the Singapore General Hospital, then Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
The bullet in her face was removed, but not the one lodged in her spine. She was reduced to be wheelchair-bound.
The gunman could have been a hired hitman, and till today, she maintains
that she does not know who wanted her out of the way so badly.
""People say I know who it was, but I really don't know. Sometimes, I
wish the answer would come to me in a dream. But I certainly would like
to know who did it before I die.''
In spite of the fact that top police officers, businessmen and even
politicians were her close friends, no one could help her find the
answer.....
Hidden History : Sunny Ang
Ang, Sunny (1939– 1967) One of Singapore’s most famous criminals,
convicted on 18 May 1965 for the murder of bar waitress Jenny Cheok
Cheng Kid, whose body was never found. The prosecution alleged that on
27 August 1963, Sunny Ang had hired a sampan (small boat) to bring him
and Cheok to Sisters Islands south of Singapore, ostensibly to collect
corals; but the real motive was murder— she was heavily insured. Ang was
bankrupt whereas Cheok had been insured for a total of $450,000 with
several insurance companies. Some of Cheok’s policies were renewed on
the morning of her death, although Ang’s were not. The beneficiaries
were Ang’s mother and Cheok’s estate.
Ang had helped Cheok to don the diving gear and let the novice diver
descend alone. When she failed to surface, he did not go down to search
for her. Moreover, he filed the insurance claims less than 24 hours
after her disappearance. One of Cheok’s flippers was later found with
the heel strap cut in two places by a sharp instrument. The prosecution
relied entirely on circumstantial evidence. The jury found Ang guilty of
murder and he was sentenced to death. He was unsuccessful in applying
for leave to appeal to the Privy Council and was hanged on 6 February
1967.
This case was closely followed by most Singaporeans. There were rumours
that he would be rescued by helicopters from Changi Jail, and steps were
taken to prevent this possible escape.
Hidden History : Girl shot thru heart in Queenstown 1972
Queenstown, 18 September, 1972 - A 22-year old seamstress by the name
of Cheng Li Zhen (曾丽) was walking with her 19-year old sister Li Bao
(丽) near Tanglin Halt when she suddenly screamed and collapsed. Blood
oozed from her chest. It was only after she was sent to the Outram Road
General Hospital that they discovered she had been shot. She died from
her wound without regaining consciousness.
X-rays showed that the bullet entered from her upper left chest and hit
her heart. Police suspected that the shooter was a sniper hiding in one
of the high-rise buildings. There were no witnesses and her sister did
not see any anyone with a gun.
The case remains unsolved.....
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Who would want to waste a bullet on this poor girl ?

Notice the life sized (2 metres tall) Sikh guard...... our own terra cotta warrior
Ong Sam Leong (b. 1857, Singapore - d. 7 February 1918, Singapore) was a
successful and respected Chinese businessman. He was the key contractor
supplying labourers to the mines in the phosphate-rich Christmas
Island. He also owned other businesses such as brickworks and
plantations in the Straits Settlements. His remains are housed in the
largest tomb at Bukit Brown Cemetery in Singapore. His two sons,
popularly referred to as the Ong Brothers, built and owned the New World
Theme Park.
Ong was very active in the patriotic movement of the Straits Chinese
community during World War One. He contributed liberally to the fund
raising efforts during the war. In appreciation of the Straits Volunteer
Corps (SVC), which defended the Settlements, he built a garage at the
SVC Drill Hall at his own expense for use by the Corps' motor unit.
Before his death, he built a fine house in Bukit Timah Road called Bukit
Rose. This was where Ong entertained friends on a lavish scale.
Ong died of heart failure in 1918 at 60 years of age.
Sam Leong Road is named after him.

Gemini Chit Fund - Singapore Ponzi.
Gemini Chit Fund Landmark fraud case. The Gemini Chit Fund Corporation Ltd was incorporated by Abdul Gaffar Mohamed Ibrahim in 1964 as a private limited company. The chit fund scheme originated in India. Usually practiced in rural societies, it is both a lending and saving scheme in which investors are also borrowers. Members make contributions to a common pool at periodic intervals. At the end of each period, the pooled funds are auctioned and the person with the lowest bid wins. Rural chit fund schemes usually involve ten people.
The Gemini Chit Fund attracted between 40,000 and 50,000 members, and promised high returns on investment. In 1973, Abdul Gaffar was charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust amounting to $3.2 million. The loss resulting from his crimes was estimated at $50 million. In sentencing Gaffar to life imprisonment, trial judge Choor Singh dubbed the case ‘the swindle of the century’.
Chit Fund? Did they spell wrongly somewhere lol.
Very good post. Thank you.
You're welcome.
On a side note, here we can see the failure of the stop at two policy. Perhaps leaders those days were not so bright but the signs were there. If they had studied the then developed countries like france, england and germany, they would have realised that fertility is going to be a problem someday.
Nobody's throwing away what the PAP has done for us and fyi, we were no slum in the 50s and 60s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw7toyYrqjs
Where have you been staying all these years?
oh and one more thing, where did you get info that singapore could have become communist?
Originally posted by Casopia-maplesea:these days, fertility is a problem in practically every country right now. think abt it. back in the 60s’, if not for PAP where would singapore stand now? a struggling little ‘dot’ under the wing of malaysia? think carefully. complaining and complaining so much now which, i agree, is in a sense justifiable, but to simply just throw away all that the PAP has done since the 60s’ is something i find wierd. which other party in the 60s’ would have done a better job? would u rather have it we became communist under the CP? or maybe suffer taxation and suppression by malaysia? we beat malaysia’s economy within a space of less than 40 years, rising from the slums to become Asean’s second biggest economy. and now u ask, what has PAP done for us?
high time to change, u still playing gole arh?
