NATIONAL Development Minister Mah Bow Tan on Friday said the Government is considering coming up with tougher measures to deter first-time Housing Board flat buyers from repeatedly declining to select a flat.
In an interview with Lianhe Wanbao on Friday, he said changes might be made to the HDB's build-to-order scheme to penalise those who forgo the flat selection process despite being successful during balloting.
This will prevent those who do not need to buy a flat urgently from applying indiscriminately.
Under the current rules, applicants who reject two chances to select a flat will have their first-timer priorities removed for a period of one year.
This means if they apply for a flat in any HDB sales exercise within that one-year period, they will no longer enjoy priorities for first-timers. These priorities include being given two chances in the shortlisting of their applications, as compared to a second-time applicant, who gets only one chance.
When asked if the harsher penalties might include extending the one-year period, Mr Mah said the Government is still looking into the changes.
Just in case, heavenly MBT with his million $ salary doesn't know what we earthling Singaporeans are suffering.
I would like to remind him that HDB's foreign-talent-imports are designing HDB with triangular shape bedrooms.
Who the fark has triangular bed? Who the fark has triangular backside? Who the fark has triangular shape wife?
I will reject his odd shape flat - again and again - regardless of penalty.
He and his foreign-no-talent cheapo imports of china, india, pinoy architects who love to design odd shape rooms. They can all go to hell. Citizens, please vote this clown MBT out of parliament.

mai tu liao lah......
Yah, I noticed these days they like to build all sorts of odd shapes for new flats.
Damn waste of space.

Is this true?

Yes.
They might advertise the floor area as 1000 sq ft.
But there might be a possibility that 50 sq ft could be the ledge or some other funny space that you have no use of on the outside of your flat.
Like that triangular space people are complaining about.

Vote for MBT.
Singaporeans generally like pain.
And to pay and pay.
Lol! I saw those triangular rooms or really odd shaped living rooms... its really very unlive-able.
I think Singaporeans are happy with just the rectangular/square houses now...

Nonsense.
If they built it like that, it means Singaporeans love odd shaped houses.
Really.
Ah I am sure this is based on some study the gament did :-D

"Whatever lar. I'm not going to live in this odd shape hdb flat anyway."

Where are these triangular-shaped bedrooms ?
Certainly, people will not want to live in these triangular-shaped bedrooms.

Some of the comments below the article makes a lot more sense than him.

The selection process is based on your queue number (which they claimed is balloted).
So if you are (heng) first on the queue, you have the best of the 'a la carte'. You can have the best of the best choice.
But if your queue numbers is at the end or near the end, you will surely come across, not few, but almost all or the bulk of the flats that have odd shapes.

It may seems laughable on forums but when one has no choice but to select such flat and later agonises over his choice day-n-night.
Thinking how to make his rooms more 4 sided, what furniture to buy, where to source for such odd furniture, how place his bed etc etc the nightmares begin to dawn on him and only gets more intense.
Anybody has pics of the most odd shaped hdb flat existing today?
Seriously I think if he sees some of the flats that are being offered, it is so stupid and ridicules that you will reject it even when desperate.
So basically he is telling us that unless you have $ to buy from the open market or if you’re really lucky to get the unit you want, you just need to suck it up and blame yourself for being poor.
I can only thank my lucky stars that I’m not caught in this shitty situation

oh pls... poor? those chaps here are rich enough to at least afford a HDB flat. Many are staying with their parents because they cant even afford to buy a flat for themselves.
