SINGAPORE : A participant from a weight management structured programme has died.
54-year-old
Ong Joo Aun was one of the participants in the reality TV show "Lose To
Win" organised by the Health Promotion Board.
Condolence messages poured in to the "Lose To Win" Facebook account when news broke out about Mr Ong's death.
He collapsed after completing a two-kilometre brisk walk fitness assessment at Yishun Stadium on Friday morning.
He was rushed to the nearby Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, where he died.
Friends described him as a jolly person who never failed to encourage other participants.
Responding
to queries from Channel NewsAsia, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) said
participants for the "Lose To Win" programme were selected via a
rigorous screening procedure.
The programme is designed to
encourage healthy weight loss, with a combination of physical activity,
nutrition classes and advice.
Following the incident, HPB said it is reviewing all safety precautions.

wah. that would be a sad case. imagine you pass out... then you wake up....
"okay sir hope you doing great. here in the brand-new KTPH, one-day rate for B2 ward is $XXX."

Well, he definitely lost trying to win. Pun intended.
I think it should be an isolated case of one trying to push too hard and had crossed the limit.

THE Health Promotion Board (HPB) has stopped all forms of physical activities under its programmes islandwide for the time being to review the safety measures and safety precautions.
This comes close on the heels of the sudden death of a contestant in the HPB Lose to Win Challenge last Saturday.
A check at some malls showed that even mall walking, touted by the board to be one of the safest forms of physical activity, has also been halted temporarily.
HPB spokesman told The Straits Times it is currently reviewing safety precautions of all forms of activities under its umbrella.
'As part of our practice, following any incident, HPB will thoroughly review all safety precautions. We will advise when the results of the review are complete,' she added.
The review comes in the wake of the sudden death of Mr Ong Joo Aun, 54, a human resource executive and father of two. Mr Ong collapsed shortly after a 2km brisk walking session at Yishun Stadium, part of the HPB weight-loss challenge Lose to Win last Saturday.
