AN UNEMPLOYED woman who hid five packets of drugs in her sanitary pad was given the minimum five years' jail on Tuesday for drug importation.
Jeganthy Balakrishnan, 22, pleaded guilty to importing 17.19g of methamphetamine in a private taxi at Woodlands checkpoint last Sept 8.
The court heard that the woman was told to alight on arrival at the checkpoint at about midnight for a body search.
She admitted she had something with her. She removed two sanitary pads she was wearing, and in one of them, two bundles containing five packets of crystalline substance were recovered.
She said that the drugs were packed into the sanitary pad by her Malaysian husband in Johor Baru, to be delivered to a man at Woodlands.
She could have been jailed for up to 30 years.
