I READ with great disquiet the advertisement in the print media about the coming Singapore Pools 'Double Happiness' Toto draws to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The ad put up by Singapore Pools - which can also be viewed on its website - indicates that the $5 million 'Reunion Draw' and the $10 million 'Hongbao Draw' would be conducted at its Livewire outlets at Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands respectively. This is different from the usual practice of conducting all draws at its main branch in Selegie Road.
Is this a marketing collaboration between Singapore Pools and the two integrated resorts to draw visitors to the IRs during the Chinese New Year period?
My biggest concern is that both the IRs may utilise Singapore Pools as a vehicle to promote gaming activities since they are not allowed to conduct any promotion programmes for gaming among Singaporeans. Although Singapore Pools is a gaming entity, its main purpose is to combat illegal gaming activities - and channel surplus earnings to benefit the community - unlike the two IRs, for which gaming is a business.
As Singapore Pools constantly reminds Singaporeans to be responsible gamers, likewise I would urge Singapore Pools to demonstrate to us that it is a responsible gaming provider.
Teo Eng Hock
THERE is no marketing collaboration between Singapore Pools and the integrated resorts (IRs) on the upcoming special Toto draws (Mr Teo Eng Hock, 'Toto draws at integrated resorts: Is this a ploy to draw visitors?'; Jan 17).
Singapore Pools' Livewire outlets are tenants of both IRs and, like the other tenants there, we operate independently.
Singapore Pools is taking the two special draws to our Livewire outlets for the benefit of our customers visiting the IRs. All draws are held within the premises of Singapore Pools.
We observe our responsible gaming codes on all aspects of our operations and strictly enforce our rule that Livewire is open only to persons aged 21 and above.

you will be surprise by people in fact, it's always full house!
would it make a difference to the people who buy toto, if they draw it at the turf club, at RWS, or on mars ? .......
or to put it in another way, would people stop buying toto, if they hold the draw somewhere else ?...........

nope...... and i won't miss it for anything else
close the casinoes for Chinese New Year.
Wah... even more publicity for RWS and MBS.
toto draws can be held anywhere, even in longkangs...
if people's hearts are firm, they will not waiver.....
This is allowed.
But providing bus services to bring you from the heartlands to the casinoes is not allowed.
