THE Census of Population 2010 released by the Singapore Department of Statistics reveals a rise in the number of singles, especially prominent in the younger age groups between 2000 and 2010.
Among Singapore citizens aged 30 to 34 years, the proportion of singles rose significantly from 33 to 43 per cent for males, and from 22 to 31 per cent for females. This translates to a 10 per cent and 9 per cent increase respectively.
Singlehood was most prevalent among citizen males with below secondary qualifications and graduate citizen females.
On the family front, there has been an increase of 6 per cent - from 14 per cent in 2000 to 20 per cent in 2010 - in the proportion of childless families.
This took place among females aged 30 to 39 years. The age group of 40 to 49 years saw an increase of 6.4 per cent to 9.3 per cent during the same period.
An upward trend has been noted in the number of families that only have one child. Among females aged 40 to 49 years, the proportion went up from 15 per cent in 2000 to 19 per cent in 2010. Families with two children continue to be the norm.
Worrying trend.
Get married = have kids = MONEY!!!!
I bet this is exactly what they want.
The lesser babies the better for them. Singapore will be just like Japan.
Once we reach the 6 million mark, i bet most of population would be adults. Then we will have the old population problems. Which brings to land problems due to demands for cemeteries.
It will go further up.
It's their choice, and no one has the right to dictate how they should live their lives for the sake of "national interest" or "tradition" - especially if it means getting into a relationship with someone they cannot live with.
A sign of modern society, citizen want their own space. Getting married & have kids is giving up Your Own Space!
dont worry. they already have a solution.
just look around you. so crowded.
after all all they care about is the economy.
some people 55 ardy no job and little money and they keep harping on "singaporeans will live till 85" so they have to keep the cpf money. If 55 alread bo lui, who the fuck cares about 85? LOL.

you are right.
i dont understand the govt's rationale on this. who cares about retirement when you have trouble surviving today? its a simple logic but the so-called scholars cannot understand this?
the cpf rule is just a sorry excuse to hold on tou our hard-earned money for their silly investments.
why do we need them to tell us how and when to use our money. its time they scrapped the cpf ruling. it sucks!!!
its not like the govt is going to look after us when we are down and broke.
dragg, u in your 40s right? at least u still can see your cpf lui. Those like us in our 20s and 30s...prob will never see it! coz they keep raising the retirement age. It will be 68 soon. by them time it's 2030 or 2040, retirement age will be 80.
i was waiting for a bus to the mrt station. took me 30min to see 3 full buses and gave up waiting.
1st bus all indian nationals, 2nd and 3rd students. my friend was commenting, given that singapore has a low birth rate, chances are the students we see are not all are local

Agreed. And the minimum balance sum keeps increasing. Now $100,000. 50 years time $500,000?
Dont talk about withdrawing a single cent out, we might even end up owing them money.

Younger people smoke too much, drink too much. 1 day enough to kill them.
Then eat too much dio diabetes, heart attack, cancer.
Then some scared to eat until die oso have.
101 ways to die, compared with 5 ways to die in the past.
5 ways people die in the past
Natural
Work Accident
TB
Murdered
Bombed

Exactly. Why the fuck they use such a nonsensical justification?
They got PhD for farK? Someone should revoke their certs for their lack of common sense. They just say whatever they want becoz they can. It doesn't really matter to them as long as they produce us explanations which are valid even if its not related.
Its just like when my uncle wanted to go buy petroleum the other day. The station didn't let him use plastic bottles making him use tins or metal bottles. Their reason "it could cause sparks". Isn't it the exact opposite?.
if u thinking of selling HDB when u want to retire overseas, better do it in the next few years. A lot of singaporeans have considered that and when it happens, no way the govt will allow you to do mass withdrawals in the billions.
