Alleged rape victim begs motorcyclist for help

A SWEEPER told a district court on Monday how a woman had blocked his way and hopped into the side car of his motorcycle and asked him to take her home.
The 60-year-old man said the woman appeared 'afraid' and refused his money to take a cab home on Feb 12, 2009.
He testified that the young woman had stepped out of a side road of Block 203 Toa Payoh North sometime past 6am and was waving frantically at passing vehicles. But they did not stop.
She them came up to his motorcycle with opened arms and asked him to to take her home. As he was in a hurry to deliver goods, he offered her money to take a taxi home but instead, she hopped into the side car and he then took her home.
As soon as she arrived at the house, she got down and ran towards her mother and hugged her. He was testifying on the first day trial of Ong Mingwee, 28, who denied raping a then 22-year-old woman at his flat in Toa Payoh North in the early hours that day.
Ong, who helps his father in a minimart, is defended by Ms Goh Siok Leng. The trial continues.

On Monday, Ong was more than an hour late for his hearing.
His lawyer, Ms Goh Siok Leng, tried calling him, but to no avail. She then spoke to Ong's father, who said he had left home.
When the court convened at around 10.15am, District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim gave the benefit of the doubt to Ong, giving him 30 minutes to appear. He arrived at about 10.40am and counsel apologised on his behalf. -
