THREE blackouts at Wheelock Place on Monday paralysed the shopping mall, plunging it into darkness for between 15 and 35 minutes each time.
They happened over five hours. The first took place at about 10.30am and lasted 15 minutes; the second happened at 1pm and went on for 35 minutes; and the third, which lasted 15 minutes, happened at 3pm.
By 7pm, power had returned to most parts of the mall, but some escalators were still not working.
Restaurants were the most badly affected when the power went out during lunchtime. Cedele restaurant manager Matheo Gomes, 29, said everything in the outlet came to a halt when the electrical supply stopped during the busiest time for the eatery.
'Customers at four tables left because of the wait. We had a lot of food wastage as a result,' he said.
He added that the restaurant might have lost as many as half its lunchtime customers.
