MR DAVID Tan's disagreement with a proposal to spend $14 million for a system to save teachers from having to take attendance ('Weigh the cost'; last Saturday) is flawed.
If we assume that the system can be used for only three years and that there are only 200 teaching days a year, the $14 million investment is a comparative bargain, bearing in mind that at least 20,000 teachers from among the 30,000 will save valuable time each day which can be used for more teaching time.
Surely we value the time of those who educate our next generation.
Furthermore, comparing a time-saving system with a noble cause, like The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, is not logical as they are two separate initiatives.
We should try to help our teachers focus more on teaching by relieving them of as much administrative work as possible.
