WE WOULD like to apologise to Ms Chng Hwee Miang and her mother for their experience ('Has SGH become too confusing for outpatients?'; last Saturday).
Our staff had suggested to Ms Chng to do her mother's CT scan that afternoon to save them from making another trip to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) for the procedure, before their next appointment. Nonetheless, our front-line staff could have been more helpful by making the necessary inquiries internally to seek clarification.
Our current systems and processes are designed to allow us to cope with the heavy load of 3,000 outpatients every day. This may translate into stressful, long waiting times and administrative procedures. Mindful of the need to improve patient experience, Camden Imaging Centre was set up to offload some cases from the hospital's Diagnostic Radiology Department. This allows patients who are ambulant the option of having their scans done at the centre on the same day.
We will continue to work on simplifying our procedures and processes, and coaching our staff to better anticipate and respond to the needs of our patients, especially the elderly ones.

this isn't bad..
i should have written in to the papers about the time i went to NUH with a relapse of a slipped disc... i was in severe pain and the A&E doctor pumped me full of painkillers and put me on a gurney...
next thing i know, i hear the guy screaming into the phone about an orthopedic doctor... then he comes and apologises to me saying that the orthopedic doctor can only see me in a week's time... so instead of putting me in a hospital bed which they are short of, he sends me home with industrial strength medication...
the next day, still in severe pain, i somehow go to Alexandra A&E and they warded me immediately and put me in traction, painkillers and all that.. i was hospitalised for a week there!
what pissed me off was a text message i got ONE YEAR LATER!!!
the text message said that the orthopedic doctor was "free" to see me in 2 weeks' time...
i am not kidding..
screw NUH.. i'm never going there again
i think radiographers are in hot demand.

SGH is getting too overcrowded to seek for medical attention.

Its the same everywhere. We have 1.5 million more people these days, but only 1 new hospital.
Even for emergency cases, theres no bed for you. Have to wait half a day before you get a bed.
