TWO people have been arrested for suspected involvement in at least two cases of rental scams.
A 41-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were arrested by the police in Jalan Bukit Merah on Monday night.
Beginning early November, the duo laid their trap by placing advertisements on the Internet and in the newspapers, offering a flat for rent.
Would-be tenants responding to the advertisement would be made to pay rental fees and deposits, only to find that their future 'landlords' soon became uncontactable.
In the latest case reported last Friday, a 28 year-old man had been cheated of a $1,600 sum.
Both suspects are due to be charged in court on Wednesday for the offence of Cheating with Common Intention. The offence carries punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall be liable to fine.
This is not the first time.
This scam was used like 10 years ago, but still people get tricked.
