Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan will be in Nagoya, Japan to attend a high-level bio-diversity conference from Wednesday to Saturday.
The Convention on Biological Diversity is an international legally binding treaty that aims to protect nature and the health of local ecosystems.
The Conference of the Parties, which Mr Mah will join in, is the governing body of the Convention plans implementation of the Convention during its meetings.
During the high-level segment, Mr Mah will share how Singapore has contributed to global efforts in protecting wildlife even in an urban setting.
The conference will consider the adoption of the Plan of Action on Cities and Other Local Authorities for Biodiversity, including the City Biodiversity Index (CBI).
The CBI is a self-assessment tool that allows cities to monitor their biodiversity conservation efforts. It was first mooted by Mr Mah at an earlier meeting in Bonn, Germany, in 2008 and is now in various stages of testing.
