MY FRIEND and I moved to Potong Pasir estate a year after the 2006 General Election. We were attracted to the constituency because of its cleanliness, low service and conservancy charges and the friendly Member of Parliament, Mr Chiam See Tong.
We were impressed by his concern for the residents' welfare when he replaced the demolished linkway connecting Block 148 to the Potong Pasir MRT station with an improved one that came with a roof.
This gesture spoke well of him and he deserves our utmost respect. But today, things have changed, not for the better but for the worse.
The standard of general maintenance in the constituency, after his mild stroke in 2008, has spiralled south. It is no longer the way it was - clean and well-maintained.
There is neither daily sweeping nor monthly washing of corridors. Fumigation is also no longer a regular feature in the constituency.
We are aghast to see that even the playgrounds are not properly maintained.
Defects such as missing or worn off screws are common in playgrounds.
In one of them we found an aluminium bench seat missing and in another, the floor mat ripped off. These have not been rectified for months.
One of our grandchildren was nearly injured by a monkey bar recently when he tried to slide down.
We wonder whether Mr Chiam knows about all these and whether the town council engages qualified contractors to maintain the playgrounds.
We are also wondering whether the authorities, such as the Housing Board, conduct periodic inspections on playgrounds, not only in Potong Pasir but also all over Singapore.
Tan Kam Weng
he nt from PAP.. funds sure low low.. how to maintain it?
Can someone from Potong Pasir tell us if what Tan wrote is true???
Election is coming.

Yeah, you said it, I wanted to include this in my post but I knew someone gonna say this.
It was reported beginning of this year or last year that despite paying conservancy and service charge one PAP constituency residents are not happy about the standard of cleanliness in their estate. They complained that the estate is very badly maintained and rubbish commonly found. They brought up the matter to Town Council and Town Council could not be bothered to do anything. Do anyone of you remember the name of the constituency? This case has nothing to do with lack of fund from PAP.
Potong Pasir is whitewashing..

Waiting for someone staying in PP to tell us about the cleanliness. Too early to give any comment on the standard of cleanliness without someone there telling us anything.
I went there several months back, looked pleasant to me. I like the peace/coziness there unlike in many pee and pui 's in charge housing estate.

How old is Mr Tan?
If he is genuine, he would have approached the MP of Potong Pasir, why the "need" to write to ST Forum? It is as if ST Forum is in charge of the cleaniliness of PP.
If I have seen problems in my estate, I will go to my MP and not write to ST Forum.

If kan chiong, proper and faster way is to approach MP.
*&$@ lah..
a few weeks ago, in clementi, knn a lightning conductor spike came off the bloody roof of the walkway and was swinging around each time the breeze blew..
the bloody spike is at eye level, and since it's light metallic coloured, it's hard to see... like that it could swing and blind someone or spike someone...
it's in clementi.. then can say the "maintenance is bad" and all kinds of shit because the roads there not swept.. can say it's the MIW fault?
election is coming. mr tan will be paid $PEANUTS if PAP gets PP liao for the "usage of his name".
perhaps mr chiam cant tong for v long liao..
only can tong for temp nia
yes Goverment funding doesnt provide any $$$ to Potong Pasir because its doesnt belong to PAP
3 years ago PAP promise a $800.000 to be provided to Potong Pasir for upgrading if they vote for PAP. but their dirty trick fail.
2 years ago Mr Chiam ask for this $$$ to provided Potong Pasir lift upgrading but was rejected because Potong Pasir doesnt belong to PAP
that was Y Potong Pasir and Houngang are 1 of those last to receive anything from PAP
reason ? - still need to ask ma??
so obvious, the propaganda here. Some parts of jurong west are poorly maintained too. Why never make the news? lol
no wonder potong pasir and hougang
look pretty ulu...
potong pasir will fall one day, at the rate it is going under chiam. He has not made any headway in parliament all these years.
Hougang is still strong in my opinion but it will one day fall too. And congratulations! We have the whole PAP family in the house. Good news for all Singaporeans :) Policies will be pushed through as quickly and efficiently as possible. Ministerial salaries will also be at a very nice level. Thanks PAP.... :)
PP and HG residents also pay taxes and serve NS. Why treat them differently?

Chiam getting too old liao. LTK much younger can hold on for more good times.
Have u all seen the way chiam makes his public speeches now? He is more than 10 LKY's junior but he talks and moves way slower.
How to vote for this man even if we love to? Where's his successor after 26 years in parliament?
