Heritage tree falls on Chinatown's Pearl Bank Apartments
SINGAPORE: A heritage tree fell on Sunday morning (Sep 11), hitting Chinatown's iconic Pearl Bank Apartments.
Facebook user Richard Irving wrote that the tree collapsed at about 4.30am on Sunday and that workers arrived later that morning at 8am to start clearing up.
A member of the public told Mediacorp that the tree was still leaning against Pearl Bank Apartments at 7pm on Sunday.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the tree was completely cleared from the area by 3.30pm on Monday.
According to the National Parks Board's website, the tree is a Purple Milletia and is likely to be more than 60 years old. It was about 32 metres tall when assessed in 2008, the website stated.
Mediacorp understands that authorities are looking into the cause of the tree's collapse.
