Free parking in the CBD!

Gopeng Street is a hotbed for illegal parking, says a STOMPer. He wonders why people bother paying for CBD parking when they can just park illegally here.In an email yesterday (May 11) the upset STOMPer wrote:"Apparently there is 'free' parking on Gopeng Street in Tanjong Pagar, between Tras Street and Anson Road.
"Everyday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, about 5 to 15 vehicles from nearby construction sites park illegally along Gopeng Street.
"They regularly park on yellow X's blocking vehicles at the exit of the adjacent car park, and also park on a pedestrian crossing there.
"To compound the issue the construction sites have blocked the sidewalks which forces pedestrians to walk on the street for about 200m, in the narrow space between speeding taxis and illegally parked cars.
"Why is it these illegally parked vehicles never seem to receive summons? Yet right around the corner summons are issued daily (Peck Seah Street, Tras Street).
"Why should some of us pay $200+ per month for CBD parking when we could just join the crowd and park illegally?" -
