Car on fire at Upper Bukit Timah Rd: Driver arrested for drink driving
STOMPer Gill saw this vehicle which caught fire along Upper Bukit Timah Road at about 8.55pm today (Mar 5).
She said the fire was so huge, she did not dare go too near.
Said the STOMPer:
"At ard 8.55pm a vehicle apparently broke down and caught fire along
Upper Bukit Timah Road near the traffic lights just before Boys Town
institution this evening.
"The front half of the vehicle was engulfed in flames while belowing out a continuous stream of thick black clouds.
"By 9.05pm the whole vehicle was in roaring in flames and I could hear little explosions happening within the burning van.
"No one seemed to be inside.
"By 9.07pm, the fire truck arrived and put out the flames within minutes."
In a statement, Police said:
"Police received a call at about 9pm, informing us of a car on fire near the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Cashew Road.
"The fire was put out by the SCDF.
"The driver, a 57-year-old Chinese man, was subsequently arrested for drink driving.
"Police investigations are ongoing."
The SCDF said that it received a call at 8.58pm and deployed one fire engine and one red rhino to the scene.
The fire was put out within 10 minutes.
According to the SCDF, there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is still not known.
