A pregnant STOMPer says this woman not only did not offer her the Priority Seat in the train, she even cursed her and her unborn child.
Says the STOMPer in an email to STOMP yesterday (Jan 29): "Today, I (I boarded the train from City Hall) met this inconsiderate and rude woman who did not offer me (who is 26 weeks pregnant) the Priority Seat she was sitting on. "She did not offer me the seat even after finishing her sms and after one stop. "However, she realised that I was taking a picture of her and asked me very rudely and with a hostile expression on her face if I wanted the seat. "I answered yes and she stood up and started hurling vulgarities at me and calling me a 'b***h'. "I scolded her back as I thought she should be embarassed of herself! "She walked away after about 20 seconds of cursing. "Before she alighted at Novena station, she stopped by my seat and started cursing me and my unborn baby! "I'm speechless as I'm wondering if she is even ashamed of herself! "I cannot tolerate actions like this and from someone who is obviously educated." In a telephone conversation with STOMP, the STOMPer stood by her story. She said that she was wearing maternity clothing and was visibly pregnant when she boarded the train and was disappointed that the woman had behaved in such a manner. |
And she also posted in a pregnancy forum:

Priority Seat - Rude and Inconsiderate woman. Please help to pass the message.
Dear all,
I hope we can stand together in this. I'm not sure how many of you are in the same position as I am. I try my best to get a seat in trains ever since I found that I'm pregnant. I'm not afraid of myself falling, but, I'm afraid of people falling on me when the train brakes suddenly. My latest trip to Japan made me realise how fortunate pregnant Japanese women are. Train operators give out a tag for them to tag to their bags so that other passengers know that they are expecting even though the tummy is not showing yet. I brought one back, but, that hardly work here. Over the last two weeks, I'm really frustrated as I'm already into Week 26 and my tummy is already very obvious for my small build. I decided to start a photo album of inconsiderate people who did not offer their priority seats. Today, I met one and took a picture of her. She did not offer me the seat even after finishing her sms and after one stop. However, she realised that I was taking a picture of her and ask me very rudely if I want the seat. I answered yes and she stood up and started hurling vulgarities at me and calling me a bitch. I scolded her back as I think she should be embarassed of herself! She walked away after about 20secs of cursing. However, before she alighted at Novena station, she stopped by my seat and started cursing at me and my unborn baby! I'm speechless as I'm wondering if she is even ashamed of herself! My husband just told me that I do have the rights to sue her for abusing me with language. I'm posting her picture here and I intend to put this message up in Stomp and also to send this to SMRT. If there are any lawyers reading this message, please kindly advise. I seriously cannot tolerate actions like this and from someone who is obviously educated. |
Who's at fault?
if I'm seated onboard the train & if I see anyone who needs the seat more than I do then I surely will give it up to him/her..
need not be just those priority seats..
whoa! got pic of e culprit sia!
she deserves a reflection for her immature n naive actions.
hmm now the debate more or less escalated to, should people on piority seats keep a look out and take the initiative to offer the seat, or it's ok to sleep etc,

lol. ok
I will be hostile too if ppl try taking picture of me.
if she wanted the bloody seat that badly, cant she ask first ?
or even better, take a fricking cab if she's that worried abt ppl falling on her ?
even when she has already given birth and the baby is a 5-year-old already.. i bet she'll be asking her son/daughter to...
"boy/girl, go in quickly and chope seat for you and mommy okay!"
will she give up her seat when a pregnant lady enters? answer is no, she is with child. still qualifies for priority seat.
Taking the picture w/o asking is rude, Period.

eh i tio b4. i was about to sit down, when a kid dived onto the seat. i nearly sat on him somemore.
eeyer..typical s'porean again =.='''
expect ppl to give up seats just like that..
if u really need the seat..just ask for it lah..not as if that person (who's seated) will tell u stuff like "don't want leh"
don't ASSUME that if u are pregnant = ppl must give up their seat to u..
if u are the one whose photo is being taken, are u sure that u won't be angry & maintain a cool & calm composed image?
another s'porean who thinks so highly of herself =.=''' that the world revolves around her..BOO! next time ASK
Sometimes i really think that some stompers realli got nothing to do or no place to whine .
dumbdumb!, I don't think you have any manners at all.
1) fine, you are pregnant, what gives you the right to a seat? You think it's an entitlement?
2) did you even ask for it? Politely?
3) What gives you the right to take pictures of others? Because you think you have not been given your 'entitlement'?
You should be taught some manners.
zzz. Singaporeans need to learn from other countries like Japan or Taiwan. Last 2 years, I went to Taiwan and took their "MRT". when I waited at the station platform(Xi Men), there were many locals but I never heard a single sound. The train arrived, they let the people onboard alight first, and boarded the train, there were many empty seats(not priority seats) although many people are standing. Next station(a temple name i think), many old people boarded and they sat on those empty seats. So, you should know the meaning right?
