Wes Brown has retired from international football, the FA have confirmed.
The Manchester United centre back, called up to the England squad to face Hungary by Fabio Capello, has decided to call time on his international career.
According to the Daily Mail, Brown, who missed the World Cup in South Africa after breaking his foot in March, announced his decision hours after Paul Robinson also told Capello he was no longer available for the national team.
Along with Emile Heskey’s retirement earlier this summer, Capello has now lost the services of 3 extremely experienced players.
The BBC have suggested Brown told the England manager of his decision at the team hotel in Watford.
The 30 year-old defender made 23 appearances for his country, scoring once.
