Jose Mourinho is set to bid a combined £100m for England stars Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, according to reports.
The new Real Madrid boss has made Gerrard his No.1 target and will tempt cash-strapped Tom Hicks and George Gillett with a £30m offer for the Liverpool midfielder.
Then he will attempt to reunite Rooney with pal Ronaldo by offering Manchester United a second £80m wedge from Real in just two summers.
Mourinho is said to have outlined his transfer strategy to Real director general Jorge Valdano at a meeting yesterday.
The club are believed to be close to announcing two lower-key signings, but deals for Rooney and Gerrard would have to wait until England are knocked out of the World Cup.
