Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is ready to fight with Arsenal for £10 million-rated Wigan Athletic striker Hugo Rodallega this summer.
O’Neill will turn to the Colombia international after Birmingham City beat him to Serbian striker Nicola Zigic, according to the Daily Star.
With big doubts over the futures of attackers Emile Heskey and John Carew at Villa, O’Neill needs to sign a new striker in the transfer window.
Carew, who is in the last year of his contract at Villa, has attracted interest from Serie A side Fiorentina and Heskey is reportedly a target for Stoke City boss Tony Pulis.
The Villa boss inquired about Rodallega several times last season as the Colombian scored 13 Premier League goals for Wigan last season.
The 24-year-old has claimed that he has already drawn a bid from Arsenal and Wigan owner Dave Whelan has acknowledged that he will let the striker leave if a big club is his destination.
Owner Dave Whelan has promised that Wigan will not deny the 24-year-old a move to a big club.
Rodallega reminds me of Adebayor, might just be what Arsenal needs but they have since signed Chamakh so Rodallega would be better off joining Aston Villa.
