  Peter Crouch could finally find someone to look up to next season - in the shape of Birmingham City target Nikola Zigic.

  The giant 6ft 8in Serbia forward is on the verge of a £6million switch from Valencia and will relieve the Spurs striker of his title as the tallest player in the Barclays Premier League.

  Crouch won’t be craning his neck when he comes face-to-face with the striker. Zigic is, after all, just half-an-inch taller than his England rival.

  But the 29-year-old does carry the tag of being the tallest player at the World Cup. And, if results pan out correctly, the pair could be going head-to-head in a few weeks.

  That would give Birmingham’s fans an insight into a man who has long been on the radar of several top clubs.

  According to sources, Zigic flew into England late on Tuesday night and his signing should be announced on Wednesday.

  Boss Alex McLeish said: ‘There are irons in the fire. We have put in bids for players. It would be unfair of me to talk about names.

  ‘But I think our supporters will be excited about one or two of the names we are pursuing.’

  Cash-strapped Valencia are eager to sell the forward, who has struggled at the Mestalla. Zigic averaged a goal every other game during his time with Red Star and his subsequent move to Racing Santander was also a success. Zigic arrived as a £14m signing at Valencia in 2007 but was loaned back to Racing because of limited opportunities.

  Imagine if he dribbles like a certain brazilian youngster whom i cant remember - By nodding and controlling the ball through headings (Imagine seal playing with ball.). I'm sure it takes a foul to get the ball off him!
