Barcelona have signed Valencia's David Villa in the first major transfer of the summer. The Spain striker has cost the Catalan club £34.2 million and will move to the Nou Camp after months of speculation over his future.

• Forum: Fabregas to Barca?
Villa, Valencia's top scorer in La Liga with 21 goals, will sign for four years and will be paid €7 million-a-season according to Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo.
He had been coveted last year by both Barca and Real Madrid, but Barcelona picked up the services of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan in a £40 million deal which saw Samuel Eto'o move the other way. Real opted to sign Karim Benzema instead.
A statement on Barcelona's official website read: ''FC Barcelona and Valencia CF closed a 40 million euro deal for Spanish striker David Villa on Wednesday morning.
''The Spanish international is due in Barcelona on Thursday evening and will have a medical on Friday morning. Villa will be officially unveiled as a Barca player at 1330 in the Paris Room of the Camp Nou. He'll then make an appearance on the Camp Nou pitch. The stadium doors will be opened to the public.''
Once the medical is completed he will join up with fellow Spain internationals Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Pedro and Sergio Busquets, all of whom are in the World Cup squad.
next season barcelona is my choice to win the CL. they can dump ibrahimovic to recoup the money or raise cash for fabregas.
They still need to replace Henry as well...
The one good thing coming out of this deal is, Pool don't have to worry that Barce would come for Torres cos Barce was more keen on Villa all along... And now that they got him... They probably won't be interested on Torres anymore. And Torres having said he won't join Real... The chance of him leaving Pool now is very slim.
But if he joins another premiership club, it would be a sad day for the Pool club indeed to lose your best player to a fellow premiership club.

Barcelona
Xavi, Imbrahim, Messi already so terror
here come Villa
thinking Villa and Messi will fight for Leading scorer

I think Pedro is Henry's replacement, cause Henry is now a bench player and has been for the most part of the season.

They are offering Ibrahimovic to the only 2 clubs who can afford his transfer fee... City and Chelsea...
okay.. now they have 2 insanely lethal strikers...
they want fabregas too.. the super-gifted playmaker...
how's this for a super-team?
Possible Barca Team Line Up Next Season (4-3-3):
GK Victor Valdes
LB Eric Abidal
RB Daniel Alves
CD Carles Puyol
CD Gerard Pique
AM Hernandez Xavi
AM Cesc Fabregas
DM Yaya Toure
LWF Andreas Iniesta
RWF Lionel Messi
CF David Villa
Scary can? However, altough the attack looks too imba, the defence is their archilles heel. They need to replace Abidal ASAP. Maxwell is at best, a reserve player. And they need cover at the back as well. Marquez and Milito are getting old and so is Puyol

maybe they're going for the "you score 2 goals i will score 3, you score 3 i will score 4" strategy?
MU, see, this is really strengthening the team.. this barca team has scary potential...
omg barcelona can be the king of soccer liao
of course. Barcelona is going to dominate la liga and CL for the next 10 years or so. I think they will win at least 3-4 CL for the next 10 seasons.
Wait... wheres real madrid ?
RM is a collection of stars and they doesnt play as a team. they can forget about winning la liga and CL for a long while.
at the very least, Barca is going spanish, and not down the UN route..
34.2m pounds is a steal! Barca are eerily reminding me of Real Madrid's galacticos.

there's a difference.. RM's strategy is to sell T-shirts... FCB's strategy is to build a killer football team

i see obvious bias in your statement.
all Real need now is a manager who can manage the egos of its players.
and to say barca can dominate li liga and CL?
please...

That is assuming Ibra doesn't leave. And Pep Guardiola will convert him into a deep-lying playmaker like how he used to be. Almost like Xabi Alonso.

henry n ibra forget it... byebye
Might prove to be a really smart move by Barca to go for him before the World Cup games.
Imagine how much competition and how much more Barca would have to pay if he'd won the Golden Boot or something.
Spanish La Liga champions FC Barcelona has launched its 2010/11 Nike home kit. It has also officially presented new signing and Spain international David Villa as a Barca player at the club’s legendary Camp Nou.
Anyway, the new Barca Kit looks ugly leh.
I think it'll look good on Fernando.
