Manchester United are launching a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The Sunday Mirror says United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to offer £20 million for Diarra.
Diarra is surplus to requirements at Madrid after failing to meet expectations following his £20m arrival from Portsmouth in 2008.
He would bring the kind of physical presence that United have lacked.

Well, i assumed the transfer is still under speculation.. (not all foreign players can adopted to BPL, hence getting a proven foreign player is an obvious choice).
Owen Hargreaves may have just recovered from his knee injury but match fitness isn't there yet. With Scholes & Giggs reaching their twilight playing career, a reasonable backup of position is essential as there are certainty more games Man United is playing thru-out a long hectic season.
What United really needs is a proven striker to partner Rooney...
Dimitar Berbatov definitely needs more tries to score a goal.
I rather De Rossi of Roma come. I also hope David Villa and Silva will come also, so need to sell carrick and berbatov to raise cash.
David Villa cost a bomb.... probably half of Ronaldo's sale... I believe not many teams will break the banks for players as EU recession is gloomy.
