According to the Argentinian news agency Telam, Diego Maradona has settled on his final 23-man squad for this summer's FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the biggest surprise came with the inclusion of Inter forward Diego Milito.
Despite Milito’s breathtaking form for Inter this season, leaving the club on the verge of a historic treble, the 30-year-old looked unlikely to make the cut. With Maradona thought to have already decided to take five forwards to South Africa, it was widely thought amongst the Argentinian media that Milto would miss out in favour of Boca Juniors veteran Martin Palermo. However, in typically erratic fashion, Maradona has pulled a U-turn and elected to take the Inter man to South Africa after all.
Elsewhere, there will be relieved looks on the faces of Colon defender Ariel Garce and especially Palermo midfielder Javier Pastore. The 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season in Serie A for the Rosanero but is yet to earn a single cap for his country (his one appearance in an Argentina shirt came in the friendly with Catalonia and was not recognised by FIFA).
On-loan Liverpool midfielder Maxi Rodriguez will also breathe a sigh of relief. For much of the year, the Atletico Madrid man looked certain to miss and will feel vindicated in his decision to find more first-team action at Anfield.
The players cut from Maradona’s original list of 30 are Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli) Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle) Jesus Datolo (Olympiacos), Jose Sosa (Estudiantes), Juan Mercier (Argentinos), Sebastian Blanco (Lanus) and Juan Insaurralde (Newell’s).
Of those unlucky seven, Olympiacos winger Jesus Datolo will probably feel most unfortunate to lose his seat on the plane. The former Boca star, on-loan from Napoli, consistently impressed when called upon by Maradona, scoring a marvellous goal against Brazil in qualification and grabbing one against Russia in a friendly match in Moscow.

Robben injury rocks Dutch
Winger will not fly out with team-mates to South Africa
Robben: Hamstring injury
SKY BET ODDS
Holland are 10/1 to win the World Cup and you get your cash back if England win. Click here to bet.Holland coach Bert van Marwijk fears Arjen Robben may miss the World Cup after the winger suffered a hamstring injury against Hungary.
Robben appeared as a second-half substitute in Saturday's friendly against Hungary and scored twice in the 6-1 romp before hurting his hamstring in the closing five minutes.
The Bayern Munich ace will undergo a scan on the problem on Sunday, meaning he will not travel with the rest of the Dutch squad to South Africa on Saturday evening.
Van Marwijk is hoping that Robben's injury will not prove serious enough to rule him out of the World Cup, but he is braced for the worst.
Does not bode well
"I would rather have lost this match and Arjen stays fit," said Van Marwijk after the Hungary game.
"He felt a sharp sting and that does not bode well. But I do not lose hope.
"I thought to myself, 'This can't be true'. He made an unnatural movement and injured his hamstring.
"You sometimes see that people with injuries like this are fit again in a few weeks. I'm hoping for that."
Robben had not featured in Holland's previous warm-up games after complaining of a hip problem and team-mate Robin van Persie admits the former Chelsea wide-man's latest setback has rocked the national squad.
Van Persie said: "I hope he's OK, because he's a very important player for us. Everyone is down now."
pretty good timings...

ivory coast has the most surprising drop outs....meite and bakary kone...
We were only 11 minutes away from the biggest party Soweto has ever seen. Sisphiwe Tshabalala had scored a superb goal 10 minutes into the second half to bring pandemonium to Soccer City but South Africa could not hang on to the lead, as Rafael Marquez, the Mexico captain, equalised with 11 minutes to go.
Will Figo be playing for Portugal? Hope the news of him retiring is not true.
figo retire last year
if im not wrong.. hes not even in the squad..
Thanks guys for your reply. How old is Figo now that he retired? The last I know of him he was in early 30s
