Hmm I don't think so. Midfielders they have 2 top players but not great wingers. Our defenders at best, are of a good standard, not surperb. Strikers wise, Rooney is up there for sure but the likes of defoe and crouch are suspect at big games.

england play long ball, watch liao sibeh sian. pump the long balls for rooney to chase? is that what you call the beautiful game? when u kicked long balls for your striker to chase, arent you gifting or giving the ball to their defenders so cheaply and easily.
the right way to play football is spain, barcelona and brazil style, possession football. how often do they lose balls so easily?

the problem with england is they have been playing long ball football like that for the past 30 years. they were being taught to play this way since young unlike in spain and brazil, where players there were technically better than their english counterparts.
the english players who were gifted during these periods were glen hoodle, john barnes, chris waddle and paul gascoigne. these were truly skilful players on par with their european counterparts.

why dun say they are not good enough. how come the germans are so strong on taking pk? because they practised and practised it in training. germans are more thorough in preparations. english are more lax and more beer guzzling.

Well, England is no doubt a seeded team...clearing to Knock-out stage from the initial grouping should not be a problem but with other national teams like Spain. Argentina & Brazil as hottie favourites.... maybe a semi-finalist looks a more ideal target.

it is not hard to guess. the key is possession football. it made the england players tired by chasing the balls, so what better way to play is to pass and pass and let the english players run round and round like headless chickens.
the moment the england players have the ball, they go pumped the ball for their striker to chase and giving the ball away so cheaply back to the defenders, so back to square one. football is not like rugby, where you pump the ball forward and then u go forward to tackle it. england football style and philosophy needed to change from grassroots level, the way they taught their youngsters to play the right way ie back to basics.

The last time Italy was also branded no-hoper but they won the World Cup.
International Football is strange la. Always expect the least expected although i believe an African nation would win this time round because of the climate.

Italy technically better than the english. their world cup record is also much much better than england, won in 1982, runner up in 1994 and won again in 2006.

Actually this is their best chance to win something big in recent years...consider the following.
1.Golden generation,no doubt on paper they have one of the best squads.Players like lampard,gerrad,ferdinand & terry at their peak right now.4years later,definitely not,they would be in their 30s facing retirement.But it remains to be seen how Capello can gel this team..
2.In Fabio Capello,they have a manager who has won trophies with the clubs he manage..track record speaks for itself
3.Most of their main rivals are in not in a very gd state..Jus look at France,Italy,not a force that they seem to be 4 years ago.Brazil's squad looks ordinary..oldies like gilberto silva and manutd flop Kleberson still in squad.Fatty ronaldinho not even in squad coupled with his team mate Pato.Argentina are in a mess under Maradona,probably Messi can't even save the mess created.
4.Their key players have played..lesser games this season,players from clubs such as manutd,chelsea and arsenal were knocked out from europe by the quarter finals..Not so much of a fatigue compared to the past?...probably..

I rate the 1990 squad better than the present squad.
last time they got john barnes, chris waddle, david platt and bryan robson and most important of all, paul gascoigne in midfield. in strikers they got gary lineker who is a sharp shooter, second top scorer of england goals at 47.

like i mention in other thread... england cannot play tgt 1... watch many time and v often v dispointing... all lost sheep.
