you know.. the charade and show which they will have to put up in order to attempt to hoodwink the general public...
but people are starting to wise up
i still remember the time when sgporeans were "given" singtel shares lol. Without knowing it, singtel put their shares into our CPFs and deducted some money. That's a nice way to raise funds, don't you all think? lol. The CEO at that time was LKY's second son. And what's more, they were already privatized back then....hmm not very private behaviour of a private organization huh.
Note: $66 excludes GST
If include, about $70 like that
yah, it's $70.62 after Greed Suction Tax
oh sure i would pay...if the clowns responsible for this farce shove the money up their asses first... all 66 one dollar coins and of course the gst - in 5 cent coins of course. hell yeah i would even pay double to see that

World Cup only $70.62? More like $124.12 on SingTel抯 mio TV
By Kenneth Tan/Red Sports
The World Cup broadcast deal has been done and dusted, and it was agreed that both SingTel and StarHub will be offering similarly priced packages for existing cable television users who are interested to watch the World Cup. It will cost $70.62 on or before May 31st and $94.16 after that date (GST included).
So what about those football fans who are neither SingTel nor StarHub subscribers currently? It will cost more than those prices in order to get your hands on the World Cup package.
On the SingTel website, it states that ew customers who want to watch World Cup content for one month only can sign up for the an all-inclusive Starter Pack. New customers that subscribe to 2010 FIFA World Cup Package alone without any mio TV Content Pack are eligible for the 擲tarter Pack? at $53.50 (with GST).?
So what is the World Cup Starter Pack all about? It is an ll-inclusive, no-hidden cost set up for customers who choose to take only the 2010 FIFA World Cup? and llows viewers to enjoy mio TV during the broadcasting period without contract and other content commitment,? according to the SingTel website.
So if you are not an existing SingTel user, you will need to pay another additional $53.50 on top of the $70.62 when you get your World Cup package before May 31st. That adds up to a total of $124.12. The installation charge is waived in this case.
If you get it on or after 1st June, there is an installation fee of $58.85. That means, you will have three separate payments to make ? $94.16 for the World Cup package, $53.50 for the Starter Pack and $58.85 for installation. That adds up to a massive total of $206.51 to watch the World Cup.
As for StarHub, their official website is poor because it does not state clearly what fees new subscribers will have to pay. We抣l do some checking and let you know in due course how much it will cost you if you are a new subscriber and would like to go with StarHub.
Edward Ying, SingTel抯 chief of content and media services, was quoted in media reports as saying, t $66 (before GST), subscribers will be paying about $1 a game to watch in the comfort of their homes. I think it is reasonable ? less than (the price of) a cup of coffee to watch each live game.?
We think the best thing for readers to do is buy a cup of coffee for 80 cents at your favourite hawker centre and read the fine print. It might cost you a lot more cups of coffee than you realise after you add up all the miscellaneous fees.

$124 divided by the 60 odd matches is equivalent to just a more expensive $2 cup of kopi per game.

They are just taking a leaf out from how the people at the top do things.
Their soccer ads are now trumpeting loud that they are the ones who brought this year's live World Cup soccer action to Singapore.
We owe a lot to the telcos.
Really.

ei? from $66, abt price of 1 kopi per game...
to $124 abt the price of 2 kopi per game...
i wonder if it will further rise to become 3 kopi per game...
the way they price it is almost the same way as Pap price their salary.

It might
If you sign up just one day before the opening match.
Then again, if the word from the ground is true, with so many people boycotting the telcos, the telcos may be forced to reduce the prices of their packages further nearer to the start of the World Cup to entice people to sign up.
Otherwise, they may be looking at a significantly reduced viewership for this World Cup.
I think most people are going to the kopitiams to watch.
And spend the $2 on 2 cups of kopi instead.
who knows maybe the johoreans may seize the opportunity to make some money by setting up giant TVs at the border.
its good money ok.
the telcos are targeting kopi diams, pubs, ktvs, mcdonalds and clubs. they are the big fishes to squeeze. unless you want them to also boycott and say no to the telco's. then no free world cup matches to watch at kopi diam and pubs liao.

That will piss off a lot of these business owners.
If small individual consumers have a 7 fold jump, then I wonder how many folds these businesses will have to pay.

2,888 & 4,888 for first tv set depending on the size of tv. the rest of the tv set is like 1,888 & 2,888 I think. hotels is $40 per room. if u have 400 rooms, then $16000 lor.

I am wondering why did the negotiation went on for so long? was it because fifa is greedy by asking too much or the telco's were bickering and could not agree on technicalities rather than pricing, hence the negotiation went on for so long. if the price with fifa were agreed 2-3 months back, advertising can help defray the costs.

They won't even reveal how much they bidded for the rights.
And when you compare what other countries are charging to the people to watch the matches, something doesn't sound right.
I am not surprised so many people in SIngapore are not happy over this issue.
And i am puzzled why they compare to cups of coffee. I mean, do you even drink that much coffee? 70+ cups in 4 weeks?
