psychological marketing..
make singaporeans wait until the very end, become nervous and desperate then announce the good news so people will jump at the bait.
its like you're used to eating normally, but i make you starve, and then when you're dying, i throw you bread crumbs and you will jump at it..
i hope singaporeans are not so stupid to fall for this cheap marketing ploy of theirs.
all along was there really any good reason to fear not getting to watch the world cup? i mean really was it even possible that singapore will not get the world cup? come on, it was just the media playing into people's mind and this whole ploy of their's to make fifa look like the bad guys are just part of their plan to make you side with them..
we must make a stance, let them lose money and show them that they cant take us for a ride as and when they like it..

Fully agreed. This time all singaporeans really have to stand up and boycott this bloodsuckers (the last time in 2006 there were also talks about boycotting, but wasn't really successfully).
Let's go for the alternative sources:
Not Starhub or Singtel's fault this time round. So I think we've to understand also.
But as for the BPL rights, it's confirm Singtel's fault! So I will not be getting MioTv.
I will watch via live streaming next season. NO WC on tv for me too :)
All blame, must blame FIFA for TOO DEMANDING!!!
Dun alway believe what the media is writing.
They are all the same chain gang.
It is just a clear sign of some incompetent fools who dun know how to secure the contract and screwed up at the last minute.
Now, they secured the matches and they just trying to pass the cost the consumers.
It is a clear cover-up.
It is up to the individual consumers to pay for the high price or not.
For me, it is too expensive and I dun want to be blackmailed every four years.
yes it is time to take a stand now. otherwise the next world cup in 2014 will be something like $150.
crazy price lei... pressure group !! stand up.
those who say worth it just $1 for 1 match... lol...hello...u so free or are u sure u gonna watch every damn match..
LOL.
too expensive...
now who also wants to sponser?
isnt our population today at least a million more than 06?
$66 per subscription will surely make them a lot of profit isn it?
i definitely wont subscribe. i dont want to be at their mercy for subsequent BPLs and world cups or whatever i want to watch. subscribing will only give them the impression "fans will pay, dont worry!!!".
They concluded the deal so late so they cannot get the advertisement and sponsorship deal in time.
So, they have to package it as a deal for the sucker fans from $66 to $88.
Just follow the advice of the millionster and use modern technology.
Cannot be blackmailed all the time from the monopoly.
Does Singtel understand the TV business at all.....I don't understand its mentality...????
Couple of aspect i would like to bring to attention.....
1) if we show to the outside world that we are "Willing to Pay" we ends up paying too much......
Singtel bid 350 million for EPL when starhub only bid for 141 million for EPL ...what do you expect when we have shown to the outside world that we are willing to PAY such high price for EPL ......World Cup will definitely pursue higher price since it is a much bigger game globally as compared to a regional league....
2) Singtel bid beyond advertising revenue is perplexed in business ....typically TV Games revenue are generated thru selling of Advertising with maximum exposure to viewership.....
With such a high price its counter productive to viewership....this has become a laughing stock to the world.....
It is amazing we a little red dot on the face of this earth has the dubious honour of being one of the most if not the most expensive place on earth to watch the World cup...
It's just ridiculous when you think about it... You can get to watch it free in Australia, free in England and free in Indonesia... Are these lesser football crazy nations than us? How about Japan, where they say the standard of living is the highest in Asia. And how much do they pay? Surprise, surprise... S$9.20 only. And even across the causeway, they are charging $28.70 while we over here pay an average of $82.50
To add insult to injury, the 2 fools from the telcos actually pat themselves on the back during their press conference and said they did it all for us the fans... wtf!
And I say don't blame Fifa as we all don't know the real deal behind this episode... Our local press can report $100m demand from Fifa then can suddenly changed to $40m... And now they say it's $21m... The 2006 deal they have all along said Starhub paid $15m to justify charging us that much the last time, then this time around it's said to be $21m, the difference can't be that much right? Wrong, cos now they are telling us Starhub might have only paid $8m for the 2006 rights...
Where is their credibility? And even to date when the deal is signed, they still decline to reveal how much they paid for it... For all we know maybe they paid a very much lower fee but are not telling us that's all. Otherwise how are they going to justify charging us this king's ranson this time around?
Relax, chill. My uncles sure subscribe. 2 hardcore soccer fans in my big family.
I bet they sure subscribe.
So who will really be not be subscribing?
Or all say you die die will not subscribe but in the end still do it?
Let's all pray they won't jam the TV1 and TV2 signal...

Aiya, even those subscribe won't be 'song' one lah... Like one guy said already... They starve us and then when you're dying, throw bread crumbs for you... You eat because you are starving but you also 'bay song' so you live to remember how they treated you... Then went the opportunity come to return the favour... You register your unhappiness... lol.
So they didnt announce how much they have paid huh? Hahaha....how come listed company also can be lydat. God knows the profit margin.
In WC2006, the price was already about $40. I can well afford it but I dowan to pay. Why shd I be a "cai tao". Knnb. So I tuned into Indonesia and I watched all the freaking matches free. Anyway, 4 years ago, I saw it coming. Prices are sure to go up cos Starhub had the monopoly. Well, now it has become an oligopoly with Singtel in the fray and with competition, prices shd go down right? Hahaha it has defied economics and gone up!!!
My family has already purchased a powerful antenna to tap into Batam. I will watch it in Indo fucking FOC cos I'm here. Screw these farking GLCs.
evil side of competition.
you will try to outbid each other to get e contract.
Isn't it for property sales by govt? somemore rising property tax in time to come. Who win? MBT

More competition in SIngapore means higher prices.
That is the brand of economic theory practiced in Singapore.
We lesser mortals must pay and pay.

Singtel, Starhub and M1 all owned by government, fake facade of free competition to charge for higher prices.
I won't be paying for it.

hmm my dad bought it while visiting me in Indo lol.
I think perhaps you can go to those TV shops and ask if they have those Ultra High Frequency (UHF) antennaes. Of course it helps if u stay high rise, it's better able to catch those electronic waves from Batam.

why is the competition when they are all owned by the same entity?
i dont see companies competiting that way in other countries.

Because singapore is small, no room for more entities.
