I knew all this would be one big wayang. WC will still come to singapore. If you don't want to pay for it, just buy a nice antennae and tune in to RCTI from Indonesia. We can receive it because of batam and the quality can be about 90%.
Call me a layman but I don't understand all this big hoo haa about the WC no show. Here in indonesia, it's a non-issue and more than 90% of the games will be broadcast live.
live stream for me
Already offering the highest bid per person already (or something like that), if it still doesn't happen then oh well. One less reason to stay up late.

I think South Africa Time is just 6 hours earlier than Singapore Time leh, no need to stay up late, but have to wake up early.

Not their fault, really, every business and organisation is there to make money.
Take for example, you rent a shop from the landlord and instead of paying 2 months' rent as deposit, you choose to pay 6 months' rent in advance. Your landlord sense a huge carrot in front of him and jack up the rent next month by almost 4 times the price you originally paid. You're not happy yet you cant move away because the deposit has been paid, leaving will mean forfeit of deposit and you don't have enough cash to move elsewhere.
See the similarities?
Singtel, instead of paying the price that the English FA demands to broadcast EPL, chose to flaunt its wealth by paying 4 times more. To kill off Starhub's competition? Please la, don't have to be so extreme right?
FIFA see such a big, fat and juicy carrot in front of it confirm will chop carrot head right?
I'm beginning to think that we have to resort to other means to watch World Cup. Singtel and Starhub are just 2 greedy but stupid companies who could share the pie together but instead, chose to fight for bigger share and a fat pig (FIFA) came by and swallow the whole pie.
ya singtel spoilt the market by paying well above the market rate many times over. but FIFA should be contented with just earning 2-3 times the previous amount paid in 2006. doesnt make financial sense to them if singapore did not clinch the rights to show world cup matches in 2010 and hence earn zero.
I believe this late negotiation is tactics from FIFA, wanting to milk as much money as possible. I think this is just wayang as in the end, singapore will still be able to broadcast world cup matches.
ok it's confirmed. The WC 2010 is a done deal after a joint bid by starhub and singtel.

Well, it's about time the World Cup Deal is done.

its 6 hours back. not earlier.
we should get the CEOs of SingTel, StarHub, MediaCorp and also Sepp Blatter together so we can beat the shit out of all four of them
You know, it has not escaped me at all that the only source that the World Cup deal is 'done' is from Mediacorp alone (TODAY, ChannelNewsAsia). And they used unnamed 'sources'.
You know, TNP said pretty much the same thing weeks ago only to be proven wrong.
I will treat this as simply another unsubstantiated rumour until an official statement has been released by both Starhub and Singtel.

CNA reported that it is not true. See my link above.

SINGAPORE: The suspense continues for football fans.
Singapore telecommunication giants SingTel and StarHub said Thursday
they have yet to secure the broadcast rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup
which takes place in South Africa from June 11 to July 11.
In a joint statement, the telcos said contrary to some media articles,
the telcos do not have the rights at this juncture.
The telcos said they understand the anxiety of Singapore viewers and are
trying their best to get the rights for them.
They were responding to media articles which quoted sources saying all
64 matches would be aired live on Singapore television.
The sources said details of the closely-guarded deal were still being
ironed out by the telco giants.
