Arsene
Wenger has backed Wojciech
Szczesny to be Arsenal's
long-term first-choice goalkeeper.
The 20-year-old has spent the
majority of the season on loan at League One side Brentford, attracting
praise for his performances. After talking this week of his ambition to
be the Gunners' No.1 upon his return to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger gave
the Pole his backing.
"It is reasonable to have the ambition to
be No.1 here next season," said the manager to reporters on Friday. "I
believe he is doing extremely well.
"I believe one day he will
be the No.1 at Arsenal certainly."
Szczesny has helped the Bees
to 10th in the table since arriving at Griffin Park, and believes the
experience he has picked up has prepared him for the pressures of life
at one of Europe's biggest clubs.
With the struggles of both
Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski well
documented this season, Szczesny could well get his chance earlier
rather than later.
