Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a swoop for Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill as he prepares for a major rebuild of his squad over the summer, according to a report from The Sunday Mirror.
The Gunners' chief apparently sees the Trotters' defender as the ideal replacement for William Gallas, who is out of contract in the summer.
Cahill is 24 as well as being a seasoned Premier League campaigner, and Wenger is believed to be keen to sign him before he wins a full England cap and his value soars.
The former Aston Villa trainee has won caps for England at Under-20 and Under-21 level and has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs in the recent past after some impressive displays for the Trotters.
It has been reported that Wenger has a significant amount of cash available to him for transfers this summer, but the Frenchman does not want to pay over the odds for the player, who is contracted to Bolton until the end of the 2011-12 season. -

Apparently, Martin O'Neill thinks Curtis, despite being so injury-proned is much better than homegrown Gary Cahill. -

Bolton already have a £15m minimum fee written into his contract to frighten Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton.
But the price will rise even higher should the classy centre-half appear for England in South Africa.
Cahill is on the radar of Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger and the Trotters are preparing to sell the 24-year-old to raise funds for manager Owen Coyle.
The former Aston Villa star signed a new deal last year under previous boss Gary Megson that erased an £8m clause.
Cahill has been regularly called up to the England squad by Fabio Capello but remains uncapped.
