  Arsenal to compete with Birmingham for Man City keeper Hart

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering an £8 million move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

  The Sunday Mirror says the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham last week means ­Arsenal are set to finish a fifth successive season without a major trophy – and Wenger wants to ensure his squad is equipped to deal with future mishaps.

  Hart is on loan at Birmingham from Manchester City. He is due to return to the North-West at the end of the season but will find himself behind Shay Given in the pecking order at Eastlands.

  Hart’s form has been so ­impressive with Birmingham that he has been talked about as a possible for Fabio Capello’s England squad for the World Cup finals.

  At 23, Hart will not be happy to be the understudy to Given and Wenger will have him watched in the closing matches of the season. Also on the Arsenal radar is West Ham’s Robert Green.

  Arsenal boss Wenger to bid for Lyon No1 Lloris

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is being linked with a move for Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

  The Daily Star Sunday says Wenger is a huge fan of Lloris, 23, who would cost £15m.

  Wenger has a budget of around £30m this summer and he could splash a chunk of that on his fellow Frenchman.

  He declined to give his full backing to Manuel Almunia, 32, who has had an inconsistent season.

  "I don't think it is the best moment to talk about that, " he said. "I never said that he will be my long-term No.1. I think he is a great goalkeeper and he is in competition with Lukasz Fabianski. So I want to see how we finish now so I don't think it is the best period to talk about individual players."

  It was a far cry from the end of last season.

  "He is the best in the Premier League, " Wenger said then of his keeper.

  Arsenal would be a great move for Hart... 

  He'll get UCL exposure plus a more or less guranteed first team spot.

  and if the £8m price tag were true, it'd be a steal.
