Bolton Wanderers have it all to do if they are to turn their poor recent record around against Premier League leaders Manchester United as they meet at Reebok Stadium on Saturday evening.

Owen Coyle's men may have turned the corner in recent times, securing victories in three of their last five games.

This run has propelled them into 14th spot and more importantly, eight points ahead of the drop zone, with just seven games to play.

But the Red Devils have won nine of their previous ten league meetings against the Trotters and with the form Wayne Rooney is in, that may read ten from 11 on Saturday night.

The talismanic front man has scored 17 in his last 13 appearances, aiding their rise to the summit of the table.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men will be striving to gather a further victory ahead of their crucial clash against Chelsea next weekend.

Since their 3-1 away-day loss to Everton on February 20, United have won their last four games, culminating with a 2-1 victory against fierce rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

Fergie's side collected three points at Old Trafford earlier in the season as they limped to a 2-1 win against Bolton.

An early Zat Knight own goal and Antonio Valencia's first goal for the club put the hosts into a two-goal lead.

Matthew Taylor's strike with 15 minutes to go reduced the deficit but United held on for the success.

United are without a whole host of first-team players with Danny Welbeck (knee), Michael Owen (hamstring) and Anderson (cruciate ligament) all out for the rest of the season.

Wes Brown (metatarsal) is expected to return at the end of April alongside defender John O'Shea (thigh).

The visitors will be without Stuart Holden (broken leg) and Chris Basham (knee), who could make a return next month.

Gavin McCann (ankle), Sean Davis (cruciate ligament) and Joey O'Brien (knee) are some way from making a comeback.

Greitar Steinsson will also miss the clash through suspension after his dismissal in the 2-0 defeat to Everton last weekend.

Defender Gretar Steinsson is suspended for the Trotters so Sam Ricketts is likely to fill in at full-back.

Influential centre-back Gary Cahill will again be part of Owen Coyle's squad but it remains to be seen whether he will be selected as he continues his recovery from a blood clot in his arm.

Ivan Klasnic is a doubt with a calf problem while Sean Davis, Gavin McCann, Joey O'Brien, Stuart Holden and Chris Basham will all miss out through injury.

Sir Alex Ferguson has allayed fears that England striker Wayne Rooney would be unavailable for the game with a knee problem.

Along with Rooney, Ferguson can call upon the services of both Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes while John O'Shea and Owen Hargreaves have both returned to training to further boost the Red Devils in their title run-in.

Possible starting XI: Van der Sar; Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville; Park, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Valencia; Rooney.

PREDICTION

One would suspect that three points at Bolton is more or less a necessity for United if they are to finish above both Arsenal and Chelsea come the end of the season and having only lost once since January, the Red Devils will be difficult to stop.

Man Utd coast against Bolton

Manchester United moved a point clear of Chelsea following a 4-0 win over near neighbours Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

Prior to United's visit, the Wanderer’s had kept four successive clean sheets in league clashes at home, in the process taking 10 of a possible 12 points.

United started slowly but gradually gained the ascendancy and were good value for their four goals even if they did need some good fortune to open their account.

Jlloyd Samuel inadvertently handed United the initiative when he turned a Ryan Giggs cross into his own net to give the visitors a half-time lead.

Dimitar Berbatov then scored a second-half brace and substitute Darren Gibson added a late fourth.

Berbatov doubled the advantage turning in the rebound from a Darren Fletcher shot before flicking in Nani's cross.

Nani then set up Gibson to seal the win.
