Under scrutiny: Roman Abramovich let rip at Chelsea's high-earners
Look out behind you: Roman Abramovich is seething after Chelsea's Champions League exit
A furious Roman Abramovich has turned on his Chelsea players, asking them if they are at the club only to pocket his money.
The billionaire, who sat stony-faced during the Champions League loss to Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan on Tuesday, challenged the players during a two-hour meeting yesterday.
He asked them: ‘Are you good players or are you well-paid players?’
The comprehensive defeat by Inter has also left manager Carlo Ancelotti fighting for his future. He has been made aware that he must deliver the Barclays Premier League title to be certain of avoiding the sack.
Abramovich is already understood to be considering the possibility of looking for his seventh manager since taking over in 2003 if the Italian fails to respond to a huge setback by not landing a third English championship.
Ancelotti admitted on Tuesday night that losing to his most prominent predecessor had put him in a precarious position. ‘I’ve worked for a long time in this environment and I know exactly what the expectations are,’ he said.
‘It’s normal that a manager is going to come under pressure if he loses a few matches.’
Abramovich turned to Ancelotti because he had won the Champions League twice as AC Milan manager. He did not expect the Italian to fail to get beyond the last 16.
The Russian owner fears his side could be declining in much the same manner as AC Milan and accepts that further investment is needed.
Feeling the heat: Carlo Ancelotti is under pressure to win the league title - or face the Stamford Bridge exit door
Fernando Torres will be a target if Liverpool miss the Champions League places, while there is also continued interest in players such as Franck Ribery, David Villa and Marek Hamsik.
Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder could also soon be on Chelsea’s wish-list, given how impressive the Dutchman was on Tuesday night.
Let Ancelotti sign his own players. Youn and promising players who can produce magic.
Throw away the rotten eggs!
ancelotti is lousy. always play the same strategy. not aggressive minded also.
I think I would prefer Avam Grant back at the Bridge.
I think roman will be the downfall of chelsea. He doesnt understand football, only throwing $$ at it. This sort of unstability is the bane of the club. Every manager envys ferguson. You win something this year and the chairman expects u to continue delivering. Any year which u dun win, that's it. And what about the youth policy if u continue changing managers? Every manager has a different philosophy.
Chelsea is screwed once drogba, lampard and terry go.
very conflicting leh.
one min, Roman angry, want to sack, next min, he gives 100Mil to carlos.. confusing..
Roman Abramovich values the CL more than anything else so you can understand the anger in him... In the last 2 years they have been in the final, than semi-final and now not even the quarter-finals...
Ancelotti was employed because he had the experienced in the Champions League... ISo I guess he didn't expect to get knock out so early...
sack ancelotti and appoint hiddink lar kaoz....so fickle minded....even mourinho got knocked out of CL second round before by Barcelona what, as was Fergie.
as was rafael too who dint even make it to the knock out stage

and then i thought i was the one who was suppose to mention about this, because kop is well-known to be living in the past?
yeh the UCL was his priority. thats true. haha i hope he continues to screw himself. Avram grant might have done something had he stayed.
Next season, rehire Mourinho.
Though I got this funny feeling that Mourinho might opt for Liverpool instead.
my god, whichever club that mourinho comes back for, it only serves to enhance his reputation as a glory seeking mercenary....i mean besides his great managerial ability of cos.

nah, no chance of Mourinho joining liverpool. why join a sinking ship? no or little funds to spend on players.
anyway moruniho also play damn boring soccer. is just score one goal than pack bus in front of their goal.
chelsea still got abit of this mentality going on. everytime they attack like seems not urgent enough to score and half hearted. either is bully weak teams or play stalemate games.
like the inter match, play not aggressive enough for first half. of course then pressure is on for 2nd half becos need to score. thats what mourinho was hoping for.
best is put pressure at start and open up the game. even if opponent score earlier also got more time to mount comeback. like how fulham beat juv
i don't think we can fully blame ancelotti. without petr cech, ashely cole and michael essien. that is very unfortunate.
Roman should buy Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka, Amri, Ribery and Rooney.
