Europa League Game (1st Leg)
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has told his players to tackle their Europa League last-16 first-leg tie against Lille as if it was their "most important game of the season''.
Considering the state of the current campaign, the Spaniard's comments have more than a ring of truth to them.
After Monday's diabolical performance in the 1-0 defeat to Wigan - described by Benitez as "a blip'' - the Reds' hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Barclays Premier League have diminished considerably.
As a result the Europa League - a consolation prize for an early exit from this season's Champions League - represents the club's only realistic chance of success.
Benitez said: "A game right now will be a chance for the players to show their character. "The last 10 games we have been all right. We had character, everyone was working hard, helping each other and working together.
"It was a surprise and hopefully this result (Wigan) is just a blip and we will see the real Liverpool on Thursday.''
With defender Fabio Aurelio still sidelined with a thigh strain midfielder Yossi Benayoun is Liverpool's only injury doubt as he missed training yesterday with an ankle injury sustained at Wigan.
Lille coach Rudi Garcia is not reading too much into Liverpool's latest defeat. He said: "Liverpool are a big team and big teams are always there,'' said Garcia.
"We cannot under-estimate them but we'll see if they perform again like they did against Wigan.
Lille will be without defenders Nicolas Plestan and Mathieu Debuchy, and forwards Tulio de Melo and Gervinho - all out injured - for the tie.

RED RAW ... Benitez admits he faces a huge task
The furious Liverpool boss blasted his team's shocking body language in the final minutes of Monday's 1-0 defeat at lowly Wigan.
Benitez also criticised his sixth-placed Reds for:
Arguing amongst themselves.
Committing petty fouls when things went wrong.
Lacking leadership when it mattered most.
Their loss left Liverpool a point behind Tottenham and Manchester City - having played more games - in the race for the fourth spot.
And that is after Spaniard Benitez guaranteed in mid-December that they would make the Champions League for next season.
The Kop chief said: "I don't like players showing disappointment with body language. It's not positive. It is important to show leadership and bring people on board.
"It is important to show the right approach to your team-mates. We have said we want to improve this.
"Watching the highlights, I could see the keeper blaming the defenders and the defenders blaming the keeper. If you see these things too much, it means you are making too many mistakes.
"I don't remember too many games when I was that disappointed. We needed to do things well - we didn't."
Benitez insists his fury has nothing to do with the V-sign rumpus that erupted around Steven Gerrard.
The skipper appeared to show two fingers to ref Andre Marriner after being booked.
Benitez said: "It was nothing. Sometimes you move your fingers but this is not something we're considering as there was nothing in it.
"We spoke about committing fouls. We must be calm and play better football instead of fouling."
Benitez admits it is crunch time as Liverpool start a run-in that will decide whether he and the likes of Gerrard and Fernando Torres have a future at Anfield.
The Reds boss accepts breathing life into his flagging team's bid for a top-four place is one of his toughest challenges.
But as Liverpool flew to France for tonight's Europa League last-16 clash with Lille, Benitez insists they are still capable of finishing the season on a high note.
He said: "This could be a crucial period for the future of the club. The main thing for me is to concentrate on football and get the best out of the players. I have confidence we will progress in both competitions."
The Reds boss was tight-lipped when asked directly whether he feared for his future - and that of his star players - if Liverpool fail to turn things around.
He added: "When I decided to stay I decided to fight. The best thing for the club is for me to concentrate on getting the best from the players.
"That's something I must do for the fans and the club."
The previously supportive Kop fans have become dis-illusioned in recent weeks.
But Benitez said: "All clubs have a bad season. You see clubs who haven't won anything in the last 20 years.
"The first thing to do is win the next game, then everyone will be happier."
LIKELY LINE-UP: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Mascherano, Lucas, Kuyt, Gerrard, Babel, Torres.

thats why we liverpool fc,and the liverpools fans are basterds.we liverpool keep saying we have turned the corner,we make so many corner turns until we liverpool hit the cow shits, and we still keep turning the corner.and so the EPL title also keep truning away from us liverpool.and then thrs this sympton...our season always starts after we got whacked left right up side down center, everywhere.this can hapen when the season is at 36th game, and we liverpool lose that 36th game, then our season will starts on the 37th game.and last season when we finish 2nd[yeah,we liverpool kissed man utd's ass],we at liverpool even b4 the season starts, already laying the red carpets and champaigns to celebrate our 20th title win.thats why we liverpool are unique...we are proud of our club motto..play the liverpool way...for those just born, this liverpool way means...our liverpool style of play is to attack the corner flags, forget about the goal post.when we make enuf corner turns, that is until the cows come home,we will attack our own corners flags.and then by the side gerrad will be sucking rafa's short cock while shouting for instructions on why the cows come home so late
turn the corner again?
yess..we at liverpool always turn the corners many many.tats why we liverpool always have excuses when we dun win games n trophy.

You turn so many corners that you end up going in circles. If the real Liverpool is only seen on Thursdays, its no wonder they have'nt won the league
if liverpool lose tonite game. so this is the real liverpool? i think is better to talk less until u win. if tonite realli lose i wonder how rafa will explain his real liverpool.
dun say too much rafa ty
I don't think Pool will lose tonight lah cos Lille isn't a very strong side... That may be the reason why Rafa is more confident fo this one...
