Arsenal could lose William Gallas on a free transfer this summer because of Arsene Wenger's strict policy of offering only one-year contract extensions to players over the age of 30.
Central defender Gallas, 32, will be a free agent this summer when his contract expires but is keen to remain at the Emirates Stadium and wants a two-year deal to stay.
But Wenger, who contemplated bending his usual rules on contract extensions to accomodate Gallas, has decided that an additional 12 months is the maximum he will offer the former Chelsea man.
Negotiations: William Gallas (left) wants a two-year deal to stay at Arsenal
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood revealed: 'Arsene has had a policy with players who are aged over 30 to offer them one-year extensions.
'He has not asked us to make an exception for Gallas. If he did I am sure the board would agree to it.
'It is not out of the question, but it is certainly not on the table at the moment.'
i think wenger will make exception for gallas.
i dont think AW has no solution for center backs should gallas leave.
however i think he should get a powerful center back as well. as all his center backs are lacking in height. they can deal with liverpool but they will struggel against teams with big and powerful forward such as chelsea, aston villa, stoke.
wad about Sol Campbell????
Well, they missed out on Smalling. And i doubt Gallas would stay longer as well, unless he's well-paid.
'It is not out of the question, but it is certainly not on the table at the moment.'-look at that.
