The sale of Asmir Begovic and Younes Kaboul behind Grant's back has created a situation at the club that chief executive Peter Storrie described as bordering on untenable.
But today we lift the lid on day- to-day conditions at Pompey that are truly unfathomable, where:
* Caterers who feed the players have gone unpaid since October.
* Repossessions have hampered Fratton Park security operations.
* Matchday costs have spiralled out of control.
* Yet the club are still splurging on air fares and hotels for their stars while other staff are struggling to pay their mortgages.
Grant, the former manager of mega-bucks Chelsea, first joined Pompey as director of football on October 7 before taking over from sacked manager Paul Hart at the end of November.
But, so far, only one month of his £1m-a-year salary has been paid under mystery owner Ali Al-Faraj's regime.
The club personally owe Grant at least £166,500, yet the beleaguered boss has been personally financing expenses on the club's behalf.
