The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has announced Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu has failed a drugs test for the second time in his career.
Mutu, 31, provided a sample following a Serie A game against Bari in January 10 and traces of the substance sibutramine were found.
Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant and was recently banned from use in the UK amid fears that the drug could increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
A statement on CONI's website read: "CONI announces that a positive test has been confirmed on Adrian Mutu with the presence of metabolics of sibutramine found in tests done by the FIGC on January 10 after the Serie A game between Fiorentina and Bari."
Reports in Italy claim Mutu could be facing a ban of between one and four years as he contemplates the second drugs-related controversy of his career.
In 2004, Mutu tested positive for cocaine and was sacked by Chelsea, as well as being suspended from football for seven months. He subsequently joined Juventus before moving on to Florence in 2006.
In July 2009 the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered Mutu to pay Chelsea £14.6 million for breaching his contract by taking the illegal drug.
Just ban him for life. I thought there was this saying that goes "Once Bitten, Twice Shy". Mutu is obviously someone who's not.

Just give him a worldwide ban for life. If he so much as goes near a soccer ball, toss the sucker in jail. The Beautiful Game does not need this kind of rubbish.
Seriously, how many footballers have failed one drugs test, let alone two?
Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has failed another doping test, the Coni (Italian Olympic Committee) said in a statement on Friday.
The latest failure happened following last week's 3-2 win over Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
This comes just hours after Mutu was suspended by the authorities in
relation to Thursday's announcement that he failed a similar test on
January 10th.
Coni's note reads:
"The Coni have
announced that, as a result of examinations performed by the laboratory
of Rome, case of positivity has been found.
"The control which
took place under the Doping Control Committee on January 20th in
Florence found traces of the substance Sibutramine in the first player
who was analyzed, Adrian Mutu, during the Italian Cup match between
Fiorentina and Lazio."
Mutu did not train with Fiorentina on Friday.
Sky Sport Italia are reporting that the player's legal defence team are planning a case to present to subsequent hearings.
The
report claims Mutu took slimming tablets, that were purchased in
Romania, in good faith, unaware they contained the banned substance.
These reports remain unconfirmed though.
He faces tough measures as he has now failed three doping tests altogether including the Chelsea one in 2004.
Wah lau..... three tests?
Absolute gone case. What kind of rubbish is this fella, really?
