  Chelsea owner Abramovich was willing to pay £70M for Raul - agent

  The agent of Real Madrid captain Raul has revealed how Chelsea made a £70 million offer for the striker.

  Gines Carvajal admits his 32-year-old client could leave the Bernabeu at the end of his contract in 18 months, but had no such thoughts when he was in his prime.

  "Many English clubs asked in the past for Raul, but the only formal proposal was the one of Chelsea," Carvajal told ESPN Soccernet. "(Then Chelsea manager Claudio) Ranieri wanted Makelele and Raul. So the same people of Chelsea who negotiated for Makelele made contact with me and Madrid.

  "They offered €100 million (then a world record £70m), but Raul didn't consider the offer because he just didn't think of leaving Madrid.

  "I believe that generally clubs know that Raul is the captain of Madrid and, as it happens with players as (Manchester United winger Ryan) Giggs, they know that there are not many options for them to change clubs."

  For the money, of course he's loyal no matter if he plays or not. He played so badly from 04-05 till 06-07, averaging 40+ appearances per season, scoring10 odd goals and yet Real Madrid still kept him. How many managers got the sack for benching Raul? Raul is the crowned king of Real, his influence on the team goes beyond the pitch.

  I think loyal servant should be in the mould of Alan Shearer. 10 years at Newcastle with 0 throphies won and yet he's still serving them faithfully despite big offers from clubs such as Manchester United.

  I dont really classify Scholes, Giggs, Neville etc as loyal servant cos United are enjoying huge success when they are in the team. Should the situation change, i.e United are fighting for survival, would they still be in the team?

  Just my opinion though.
