Man Utd see Chiellini as Vidic replacement

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is chasing Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The News of the World says both Manchester clubs have been tracking the Juventus defender this season and the player's agent, Davide Lippi, was present at the Carling Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

United boss Ferguson has given up on convincing £25million-rated Nemanja Vidic to stay beyond this campaign and is now hot favourite to snap up Chiellini, 25, for £12m.

Fergie is prepared to wait for the Italian, who becomes available at the end of the season, but City chief Roberto Mancini wants to boost his squad now.

Manchester United To Replace Nemanja Vidic With Giorgio Chiellini - Report

Manchester United are reportedly ready to allow Nemanja Vidic to leave Old Trafford for Barcelona next summer and will replace the Serbian international with Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini.

Vidic’s future in Manchester has been the subject of much speculation this season and, according to the News of the World, Sir Alex Ferguson is now willing to allow the 28-year-old to quit the Red Devils after four years service.

The report also claims that United are hoping to raise £25 million from the sale of Vidic to Barcelona and will spend half of that cash on Chiellini, who is viewed as an ideal replacement.

The tabloid believes that Chiellini is open to a move to the Premier League and with Juventus currently struggling in Serie A, could easily be tempted to head for England.

The player’s agent Davide Lippi was also believed to be present at Eastlands to watch United take on City in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday, increasing speculation that Roberto Mancini could also be interested in the defender.

Wah... If can get £25 million for Vidic very good leh... Cos by next year he will be 29 yrs old already... Can cash in before he become worthless... Anyway, he is also getting injury prone these days...

Aiya United just signed Chris Smalling from Fulham yesterday. I was impressed with his performance against chelsea but he will only play during the 2010-2011 season soccernet.

But Smalling is more of a Rio-type of defender, not Vidic with his gungho approach. I think Chiellini looks like a good option - Strong, fast and was Italian Under-21 captain. He takes decent freekicks and spotkicks as well.

true. anything between 20-30m means utd is doing a real good deal.

I think they should be very careful in chosing a good player,, because on their performance for the past few weeks.. Im so disappointed with their game,, they keep losing..
