Guus Hiddink rejected the chance to coach Juventus despite a mega-money offer, according to reports in Russia.
The tabloid Tvoi Dien claims sources close to the Dutch coach revealed he declined Juve's
offer of €3.5 million per season wages because it was way off what he
earns with Russia - around €7m per year.
Hiddink was unprepared to lower his wage demands in order to take on the role in Turin after Ferrara had come under heavy fire.
However,
news in Russia contrasts directly with what Hiddink's agent said on
Wednesday. Cees van Nieuwenhuizen claimed there had never been any firm
talks or offers from the clubs interested in the coach, namely Juventus
and Liverpool.
"I have spoken to the representatives of four clubs and five national teams," the agent told Sovetskiy Sport.
"It's
regarding all the teams that have been mentioned in the papers. From
Liverpool to Juventus. In any case, like I have said before, there have
not been any talks to take this further," he said, casting doubt as to
whether a concrete offer existed.
Juve have always confirmed their faith in current coach Ciro Ferrara when questioned.
