  Liverpool have clinched a deal to bring Atletico Madrid 's Argentine midfielder Maxi Rodriguez to Anfield, signing him on an 18 month contract.

  The 29 year-old has been at Atletico Madrid since 2005 and was also rumoured to be wanted by Boca Juniors.  Rodriguez will link up at Liverpool with compatriot Javier Mascherano and former team mate Fernando Torres .

  Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will be delighted to have captured Rodriguez for a knock-down price, as he had been told that he must sell before bringing in new faces at Anfield.  However, Atletico were eager to sell or else face the prospect of losing the player for free when his contract expired in the summer.

  Rodriguez has 32 international caps and 9 goals to his name.  He is set to make his Liverpool debut in Sunday's crunch clash against fellow Champions League qualification contenders Tottenham at Anfield.

  Is it £1.5million or £11.5million? £1.5million abit hard to believe given the market rate today. And if the transfer news turn out to be true, then i can only say that this idiot has made a wrong move. Good luck to his hopes of making to argentina world cup squad.

  £1.5million I guess is because he left less than 6 months on his contract at Atletico Madrid... and he is currently 29 yrs old and not playing in their first team squad...

  It seems like Atletico Madrid wanted to loan him out so as to take him off their players salary... But since at present, I think there are 2 serious takers and a loan would have been great but I suspect Boca Juniors are not into paying any transfer fee and Pool being richer wouldn't mind the token...

  For Atletico Madrid, I guess they should be happy to at least get something back from him rather than just loan him out for free...

  The guy seems to be a good player... But in recent years, have suffered a serious injury... So who knows, he may turn out to be a good buy afterall... Kuyt's place is in threat... lol. First time he may have competition... But being Rafa's pet... Maybe he will get a new position as a striker...

  arsenal should have snapped him up, he came for a really low price. it is a much better deal than what arsenal initially wanted to pay for chamakh who is the most over-rated player i've ever seen. as a striker, he has a goal in 4 games ratio, even for a midfielder, a 1 in 4 ratio is atrocious. he should be scoring at least 2 goals in 3 games before arsenal even consider buying him.

  Maxi Rodriguez is expected to complete his move to Liverpool today from Atletico Madrid.

  The Argentina winger told his Atletico teammates yesterday at training, including Sergio Aguero, that he would be joining Liverpool.

  Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores had left Maxi out of his line-up for the last two games this week as the midfielder waited on Liverpool to make the deal happen. With cash raised from Napoli's capture of Liverpool fullback Andrea Dossena, Maxi received the green light yesterday that his move to Anfield was on.

  Aguero, particularly, is sorry to see former Atletico captain Maxi go as the experienced winger had taken the youngster under his wing upon his arrival in Madrid.

  £1.5m is the loan fee i think , not Transfer Fee .

  Loan for 18 months from A Madrid .

  Then 18 months later , then can , if want , if he want , sign him on a Free .

  LPPL , still £1.5m , but 18 months later , he can chose to go back to Boca Juniors , that's an option for Maxi .
