Tottenham willing to offer Keane, Bentley for Villa’s Carew

Tottenham are making a swap offer for Aston Villa striker John Carew.

The Daily Star says Tottenham are ready to offer club captain Robbie Keane as bait to land Carew.

Spurs will approach Villa and make it clear they are prepared to let Keane join them as part of a deal to net Carew.

Martin O’Neill will be told he can have Keane if he stumps up £5m plus Carew as Tottenham cut their losses on the Irish striker they signed for £12m from Liverpool a year ago.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has targeted the Villa star as one of the men he wants to aid a Champions League charge.

They want to recoup as much of the £12m they paid Liverpool last year to bring back Keane.

Spurs are also willing to use want-away David Bentley as part of a deal to sign Carew, 30.

O’Neill is a big fan of Keane and was linked with a move for the 29-year-old last summer.

i think if Keane hadn't gone behind Harry's back and organise the Christmas party, he'd be playing regular football now.

It's a good deal for both sides - Villa has a thin squad and Spurs need muscles upfront.

why does he want another centre forward? isnt crouch good enough? granted he doesnt have that muscle play about him, but crouch offers more in goal scoring threats and aerial ability.

carew is 31 and keane is only 29 and bently is mid 20s isnt he?

besides carew is not known for his scoring prowess like van nisterool, so its definitely a good deal for villa.

actually guys

i think bentley is good.. not better than lennon.. so he can't really 'shine'
and keane is average too.

keane + bentley for carew is a little too much.

This would be a crazy transfer, how much is Carew worth??? He cant have that many seasons left in him...

Keane + Bentley cost spurs quite a lot of money in transfer fees, this transfer would never go through!!! if it did spurs got money to throw away...

The title of the report doesn't match with its content. You guys need to read the content of the report before jumping into conclusion. It's never a "keane + bentley for carew". It's more of "carew + cash for keane". By the way, i agree with stellazio that with Crouch, tottenham do not need a forward of Carew's nature. Unless they manage to offload the russian flop pavaluchenko and can get Carew cheap, then carew would be a good backup for Crouch. And Bentley is a sad case. I still can't figure out why he could not fit into the Tottenham side.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has played down reports of Robbie Keane leaving White Hart Lane. The Irish hitman has been linked with a number of clubs, with Celtic and Aston Villa believed to be leading the chase.

However Redknapp is a big fan of the Republic of Ireland international and says only a massive offer would tempt him to sell.

"Please God, he'll still be here in February," Redknapp told the Press Association.

"He is the captain, he's here, he's done a great job for us and is very important to us.

"There's real competition between him, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch but unless someone comes up with £50million or something for him I can't see any way he won't be here.

"He's part of the plans and I haven't spoken to anyone about him leaving or wanting to leave.

I never made any enquiries at Aston Villa, if I did I would have spoken to Martin O'Neill who is a very good friend."
