Transfer request: Beckford has been linked with a move to Newcastle United
Jermaine Beckford has submitted a written transfer request in an attempt to force a move to Newcastle and fulfil his dream of playing in the Barclays Premier League next season.
Leeds’ top scorer, 26, who knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup on Sunday, is convinced Coca-Cola Championship leaders Newcastle are bound for an immediate return to the top flight and wants to join them in this transfer window.
Dismayed at seeing two Newcastle bids rejected, Beckford reluctantly concluded he would have to request a transfer. He is pinning his hopes on Leeds accepting a third Newcastle offer of £1.5million.
Newcastle have failed with bids of £1m and £1.25m and have made it clear to the Elland Road board that their latest attempt to reach some common ground is as high as they can go.
Leeds have so far been holding out for more than £2m. A Leeds statement said: ‘The player wants to leave Leeds United. However, that will only be allowed to happen in the event that it is decided to be in the best interests of Leeds United.
‘The best interests of Leeds United involve receiving both an acceptable transfer fee and securing a suitable replacement.’
Man Utd should sign him - so that he wont be able to score against them!

Exactly.
That is the worry of United boss Simon Grayson, who fears the fans will turn on their 20-goal top scorer at Elland Road this afternoon.
Grayson reckons Beckford could cop it when he lines up for the League One leaders against Wycombe.
Beckford, who got the FA Cup winner against Manchester United on Sunday, is primed for a £2million move to Championship pacemakers Newcastle.
But Grayson admitted: "There is a bit of concern over how the fans will react even though they have always backed the team I have put out.
"I would like to think that if Jermaine is here at the end of the season he will have scored the goals to get us promoted.
"If he goes, I would like to think I can bring in a replacement to carry on where Jermaine left off."
he should just stay with leeds.
who knows one day, leeds might just return to the way they were before.
If he really goes Newcastle United, might have high chance of featuring him in BPL.
Is he really that good? or just because a goal that knocked Man Utd out..he come so proud....
