Liverpool manager risks missing out on January transfer targets by over-pricing players he wants out. Benitez is desperate to bring in more creative players but will first have to sell the likes of Andriy Voronin, Andrea Dossena or Ryan Babel.
But he risks derailing his plans by asking £12million for Holland striker Babel and £5m for Voronin, whom he signed on a free two years ago.
Benitez knows he will have to drop his price the longer the window is open because he has to sell to finance moves for Atletico Madrid winger Maxi Rodriguez plus a centre-forward.

Liverpool Defender Andrea Dossena To Sign For Napoli For €5m
Liverpool's Andrea Dossena will shortly sign for Napoli in a €5 million deal, according to various reports in the Italian press.
Napoli's sporting director, Riccardo Bigon, arrived in Merseyside on Monday for talks that have apparently borne fruit.
Dossena, 28, arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2008 but has failed to settle into the rhythm of the English game.
With Fabio Aurelio dominating the left-back position, and other places in the squad also being unavailable, Dossena in fact made fewer than 20 first team appearances in two and a half season.
However, Liverpool held out on a sale until they were able to recoup some of their original outlay, which was in the region of €8.75m at contemporary prices. -

ANDREA DOSSENA'S Anfield nightmare is over after he finally joined Napoli in a £4million move last night.
The Italian full-back suffered a torrid time at Liverpool after a £7m transfer from Udinese 18 months ago, starting just three matches this term.
Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon flew to Merseyside for talks yesterday and the 28-year-old is likely to move over the next couple of days.
Kop boss Rafa Benitez knows he has to sell before he can spend any meaningful cash.
He also hopes to offload Ukraine flop Andriy Voronin to Dynamo Moscow for around £1m.

Looks like Rafa is finally willing to lower his price... He must have realised that not every one of his players is like Alonso... asked high high and still can get... lol...
He wasted too much time on Voronin... Should have sold him long before he went on loan to Germany... and another half a season waiting for a good offer to come along...
