  Arsenal are considering a £20million gamble by signing a striker and a defender in the January transfer window to boost their growing title challenge.

  Arsene Wenger is understood to have a fund of £30m following the sales of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City in the summer and, though the Arsenal manager will not be rushed into panic buys, injuries to Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner have forced him to play Russian Andrei Arshavin as a central striker lately.

  With Chelsea drawing again at Birmingham yesterday, Arsenal can move within four points of the league leaders with a game in hand if they can beat Aston Villa at the Emirates today.

  And next month, Wenger may have to overcome his reluctance to splash out the £4m Bordeaux want for striker Marouane Chamakh, but he will certainly not pay the £35m Wolfsburg want for Edin Dzeko.

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy.

  The Sunday Mirror says Arsenal have emerged as shock contenders to sign Bellamy.

  The 30-year-old is unsettled at Manchester City following the sacking of manager Mark Hughes and was last night reported to have handed in a transfer request.

  The Welsh star was left on the bench by new boss Roberto Mancini for yesterday’s 2-0 win over Stoke in favour for Robinho.

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger needs to bolster his strike force after the loss of Robin van Persie for the season.

  “Craig’s a warrior, just what Arsenal need,” said a coach who has worked closely with Bellamy.

  Bellamy has been excellent this season and is higher in pecking order ahead of Santa cruz, Tevez and Robinho.

  I doubt Mancini will release his man. They don't need the cash.

   

  It's not easy to find a player who can adapt to Arsenal's free flowing style of play quickly. Those players usually come expensive.

  then if we get players from ajax or barcelona, they will fit, since they are also free flowing style. :D
