Hughes : Helped paid for Bellamy's transfer to City
He spent yesterday in secret two-hour talks with one of the country's top employment barristers, Paul Gilroy QC. And, today, we reveal how City's chiefs plotted for weeks to get rid of Hughes and replace him with former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini.
Hughes knew he was to be axed only when he read it on The Sun's back page on Saturday morning. Yet he had proved how committed he was to City by dipping into his own pocket to help buy one of the club's star performers.
Bellamy dazzled again by scoring in Sparky's last game, the 4-3 win against Sunderland.
Hughes signed him for £14million in January this year but the deal nearly collapsed when City found themselves £250,000 short.
Chief executive Garry Cook frantically told Hughes the deal could not be completed - so the City boss lent the money to clinch the signing.
Bellamy and goalkeeper Shay Given have been the real hits at City as Hughes has overseen £250m-worth of transfers. And those two led a six-player delegation to see Cook on Saturday to protest at Hughes' sacking.
Mancini is on a 3½-year deal worth £10.5m. He is also on a £1m bonus to finish in the top four or win a trophy.
Furious Hughes listened yesterday to advice from top barrister Gilroy who helped Alan Curbishley win his unfair dismissal case against West Ham.
nothing great imo, he wanted the man, he pay for it if that club doesnt want to help.
Hahaha... I don't recall any managers coming out money from their own pocket to help buy a player for the club... Somemore this coming from the richest club in the world...
The richest club in the world need its own manager to help foot the bill... lol... Say also hard to belief...
Bellamy is surely their star player this season with so many good performances. I wonder if Mancini will recgonize that and continue playing him.
if only mancini can do what scolari did at chelsea.
then city wont be a threat

You take out our own money, don't say so much lah, just $250 bucks to help your company buy office supplies lor, see you want or not... lol...
Or if you are a student, you take out our own pocket money and help pay the school's cleaners salary lor...
I think $25 also hard to find people willing to pay for their company especially if its a wealthy company...
come come come... join in the strike at BA ar.... man city player go on strike and have a merry Xmas at home eating turkey ar.....
I think Bellamy might walk away from City... He can easily do this by not playing well... lol.
The 30-year-old striker was one of several players – including Shay Given – who attempted to confront City chief executive Garry Cook on Saturday evening after they were told that Hughes was out of a job.
His replacement, Roberto Mancini, will be presented to the media today and will be bombarded with questions about the nature of his controversial appointment.
The Italian already has to quell a player revolt at Manchester City over Hughes’s sacking – the Welshman was popular with the bulk of the squad – and his first task now will be to try and get Bellamy to change his mind.
Bellamy arrived at Eastlands in January in a £14 million deal from West Ham United and has been one of Hughes’ most successful signings.
The pair have a strong relationship having previously worked together at Blackburn Rovers and Wales. Bellamy is not the only City players disillusioned by events with Given and midfielder Gareth Barry also understood to be particularly angry.
There have been suggestions that striker Carlos Tévez – another who greatly admired Hughes – may also want to leave but, at present, that is believed not to be the case.
Bellamy is understood to have delivered his request although it’s not known whether its verbal or written, and informed City that he is so angry by what happened that he would prefer not to play for the club again. Mancini’s first game in charge is the Boxing Day fixture against Stoke City.
if SAF got sack like that.. u all guess what will happen leh?? i think whole team may go on strike and even some ex player maybe..... then they will form a company themselves and buy back man utd.. i believe all those current and ex player add together can afford it lah

Stormy: Mancini and chief executive Garry Cook at Monday's press conference
New manager Roberto Mancini arrived at the club yesterday and immediately walked into tribal warfare.
The ex-Inter Milan boss is used to being the big chief - but key players Bellamy and Given are still squawking over the way Mark Hughes was axed on Saturday.
The pair have proved to be Hughes' best signings in his 18 months at Eastlands.
Bellamy is particularly loyal to Sparky, having played under him at Blackburn and with Wales. Keeper Given made the tough choice to leave Newcastle because of Hughes and the way the Welshman sold the ambitions of the club to him.
Both feel let down by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and chief executive officer Garry Cook. The pair were particularly emotional after Saturday's 4-3 victory over Sunderland at Eastlands which proved to be Hughes' last game.
They led a six-player delegation to complain to Cook about the sacking. And they have told close friends they are now considering their futures.
It will be a massive blow to Mancini if the pair decide to leave. Both arrived in January - Given for £8million and Bellamy for £14m.
Many other players were unimpressed with their first day's training under Mancini and new assistant Brian Kidd.
Mancini had given a short address to the players saying how much he was looking forward to working with them.
Cook also told the players there had been no negotiations with Mancini until last Thursday.
A number of players left shaking their heads as it was clear there was earlier contact. Yesterday Mancini admitted he met Khaldoon and Sheikh Mansour in London two weeks ago.
A source close to the players said: "Some felt they were being treated like idiots and were not swallowing that."
lol, these players are funny.
Well, at least Given and Bellamy have a point to prove: They are not playing for City for the Money. Think Barry (Man City > Liverpool), Adebayor (I hate Arsenal fans), Robinho, Santa Cruz (So you like to get paid sitting on the bench huh?) and even Toure who is like Robinho, itching for a move to Barcelona.
