  Liverpool approach Stoke for Beattie

  Liverpool have sounded out Stoke City about a price for James Beattie.

  The People says Reds boss Rafa Benitez is desperate to add more firepower and provide some much-needed cover for Fernando Torres. But his targets are significantly limited by the club's financial plight.

  Stoke striker Beattie would, however, be well within his price range and, following his bust-up with manager Tony Pulis last weekend, is available in January.

  Beattie's wages - believed to be around £20,000 a week - would not be a problem for cash-strapped Liverpool, as the player would cost only around £500,000.

  I feel disappointed for such a lousy season Liverpool is having this season. The strikers they sign are either to compliment Gerrard or Torres. Look at how many strikers and money they spent on them. Peter Crouch, Criag Bellamy, Robbie Fowler, Robbie Keane.

  The one I 'like' most about Benitez is Robbie Keane, buy for half a season then sell back to Tottenham for 2 million less.

  I feel that instead of buying strikers with experience, why can't they look into their own youth squad to train potential strikers? Arsenal and Man Utd are developing their youth talent which I feel can save money in the long run and look at their talent they have.
