Veteran Valencia midfielder David Albelda has insisted that team-mate David Villa is worthy of a similar price tag to the €94 million Real Madrid shelled out for Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer.
Albelda
was talking ahead of his sides showdown with Madrid at the Mestalla as
Los Che look to go level with Los Merengues in second place in the
Primera Liga. He also suggested that the absences of Ronaldo and Kaka
from the tie should be immaterial for the visitors as they have spent
enough money during the summer to cope with such absences.
"Although
they don't have Cristiano and Kaka, they have plenty of players to
cover for them. No wonder, they spent almost €300 million on new
players this summer," he said in an interview with AS.
"After
seeing what they paid for [Karim] Benzema, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo I
can assure you that [David] Villa is closer to the price they paid for
the Portuguese than they money they paid for the other two. 'El Guaje'
is one of the best strikers in the world."
Villa leads the goalscorers chart in La Liga with 11 goals so far this term going into tonight's game against Los Blancos.
